Re: updates to the Haunted Mansion..what do you want in our Mansion?

As I said before, I'm a little bankrupt for ideas on this one. It's an issue I've given a fair amount of thought in the past, but it's genuinely tricky. The new scene would need to be subdued, creepy, at least slightly logically sensible in terms of house layout, and not overtly haunted. That's tough. I think the whole idea of making it similar to DLP's loading area on some level is quite common; I know Disney has toyed with it, along with half of all the armchair Imagineers out there. Only having seen it in photos, I can't say how much I support the idea, but it does feel rather...Phantom Manorish, of all things. Not sure it fits with the HM tone. Now, the architecture and style and everything would of course be significantly altered to look similar to what we see in our Haunted Mansion, and perhaps that change would be enough. But the grandiosity itself might just be not quite right. I'd hate for the ballroom to lose some of its impact because there was already another scene of similar size.

ditch the more modern voice over telling you to stop away from the doom buggie at the exit, and throw out all the spanish spoken junk also. Both horribly ruin it and degrade thurl ravencrofts voice talent immensely.

imho, the whole park really needs to stop pandering towards certain groups of people and stop the spanish speaking parts on rides/shows/etc. What next? fantasmic/haunted mansion/etc warnings in tag, japanese, chinese, german, french, etc? get real

how about it is respected for how it was envisioned back in the 60's with slight upgrades like it has and the nightmare overlay. seriously, give it up people on having to totally redo entire classic rides. it's getting old and tiring, you'll just end up with another winnie the pooh most go out of their way to avoid

Your the one who needs to get real. Like it or not, 40% of Southern California's population is Hispanic. I don't see exactly what your whining about because none of the rides or shows are affected by it at all. I don't hear Madam Leota speaking Spanish do I? Are the busts speaking Spanish to only ruin your ride experience? I don't think so. When I watch Fantasmic, is there a part where mickey starts speaking Japanese? No. The only part of the "experience" is the show warnings and safety rules. If you can't handle that, then you must have a problem.

Re: updates to the Haunted Mansion..what do you want in our Mansion?

Funny that this thread popped up rather than just looking at the famed The Thread ("Long-Lost Haunted Mansion Effect). Anyways...

Limbo has always been a thematic "band-aid." It fills the space with an answer ("mists of decay and darkness") while altogether disappointing.

A Grand Staircase (for those who've seen "Gone with the Wind") would be the best fit, especially for the opulent Southern manse that the NOS HM is. Chandeliers, candelabras, and eerie lighting coming through windows would also replace the "safety" lights recently installed.

If the Grand Staircase is too PM for you, the larger Grand Library effect would also work and would allow for the voice-over from WDW talking about "only ghost stories, of course..."

Don't think WDW, but think Tokyo's library. SOOOO much better. More effects. More detail. Check it out.

Re: updates to the Haunted Mansion..what do you want in our Mansion?

I had a dream about this.
I dreamed (dreamt) there was a large staircase Stretching up -way up - at the base it was well maintained and safe looking but near the top it decayed into shambles and became unusable so we had to use the staircase on the left.
    It worked in my dream.

The Escher stairs at WDW seem to be an unqualified hit. I consider it almost inevitable that they will be cloned in the DL HM load area eventually. In some ways the fit is even better: you have more time to observe the ghostly footsteps, and the doombuggies at DL descend a staircase to the load area and immediately ascend a staircase after you board, making the WDW labyrinth even more thematically appropriate at DL.

As Data says, it would be nice to at least try the original concept. If the lawyers get the willies at the prospect of dimming the lights, then cover the walls and ceiling with black velvet. The difference between (A) I'm on an island of light in a sea of total, pitch blackness and (B) It's pretty dark in here, but I can see enough to know that I'm inside a big room is INCALCULABLE. I still think people would be astonished if they walked into a serious presentation of option A.

Paul Frees. Thurl is the lead the singing bust. Paul Frees, the 8th wonder of the world, is our Ghost Host.

I think that the "boundless mist and decay" stuff made the whole concept of having "doombuggies" make more sense, f we were to get a more Mansion like loading area it would have to have something trippy enough to support the idea of "doombugies" going right through a mansion. Which is why I like the idea of having the crazy stairway effect there, as opposed to a grand staircase. It's mansion like, but weird enough to support the doom buggies

I didn't say an exact copy of WDW's library scene... did I? well just know that I think that the busts presently there could be but into a more elaborate scene AND have the ghost host audio from WDW wich is pretty cool.

This made me reconsider the staircase scene being put there... It COULD work

A library scene could be put in before you go to the load area. By expanding the area were you turn from the portrait gallery and the busts are there. This would allow for a separate loading area scene. This library scene could also be a lot more elaborate and different than WDW's AND Tokyo's.

What can I say? Great minds think... Well some do... and then there are others that simply don't... I don't know if you have a great mind or not, but I think I should stop talking at this juncture in this thread, because I seem to be going nowhere with this post, and I haven't figured out if you have or haven't a great mind, but from the looks of things, it would appear as if you do, but then again, this is only one small sampling that would suggest you do...

So, how about that library? (And that run-on.)

I really think should update it.

The stairway effect was pretty awesome, but maybe have some originality to it?

    Idk.

    umm clearly I'm not because...what?

Maybe the new library scene could be designed more to look like the library/office of Master Gracey from the movie... not that I liked the movie but, It was a lot more elaborate than WDW's scene, BUT i'd still include the awsome ghost host audio there

It's just a suggestion but it would be original in it's placement if you think about it.

Are you saying I don't have a great mind? How dare you!

Anyways, the new library scene would be on a much larger scale than the WDW scene. It would borrow elements from the set of the Mansion movie. Basically, books would move. You could also have a book on a desk start to levitate, but not fully make it. Guests would be second guessing if they actually saw that. Busts could move from side to side. Just a bunch of little eerie stuff...
