updates to the Haunted Mansion..what do you want in our Mansion?

ok, so many of you have probaly seen (on videos or in person) the updates done to WDW's Haunted Mansion. I thought all of the updates were awsome and many of them left me very jealousfor our Mansion So while chatting in another thread, Datamiester mentioned that the load area for DL's HM was the the same basic shape and size as the "escher like" stairway scene added in WDW's HM. since there is virtualy nothing there now.. if you'd be in favor of replacing the "limbo" scene with the crazy stairway scene say aye!

ok, so now, what other updates do you think shold happen to The Haunted Mansion? (other than cloning WDW's new effects) Give your ideas, such as ways on how to update certian scenes or even creating completely new scenes...

I've suggested a "grand library" scene in limbo. It would be a good transition from the morphing portraits/following busts into the ride portion. But I'd be happy with the staircase. It would be more to look at.

I'd say leave it the way it is, upgrades are fine though. I think we should have separate Haunted Mansions. Take this question for instance. Why do you want the effects here? Are those effects, and scenes as well, enough to make you want to go to WDW instead of just any other Disney theme park?

Another reason I think it would be better for each park to have it's own HM, as well as other versions of rides. It allows for WDI to better upgrade and "plus" attractions. Did you see them add the staircase scene to every HM? No. It allows them to explore multiple story lines as that's a majority of what Disney is about, the stories. The more diverse the stories, the larger of an audience the parks will draw in.





To me when riding HM it's kind of taking the chicken way out. I didn't realize it until recently but the way the Ghost Host is talking about escaping the mansion is through death. Unless you were to take your life, or someone else were to, it's chickening out of becoming the 1000th ghost. I think that that idea should be a little bigger in the attraction. Maybe even show you ghosts trying to help show you the way out without dying.

Right now I see it more of, you are the ghost to them. They are dancing and doing their own little thing without really even taking notice to you. You pass by and they don't even seem to notice that you're not dead. Maybe have it tweaked a little bit better at being more geared toward the guest as far as the scenes/AAs/whatever if they're going to have the "escaping from becoming the 1000th' Happy Haunt" going.

The loading area is always a formidable challenge for me as an armchair (future?) Imagineer. And I know WDI has put a lot of thought into it and ended up feeling the same way. The WDI stairwell effect could work, because, as you said I said, our loading area is of the exact same size and shape. Bigger, if you count the walkway into it. We could theoretically have a version of the effect that would be slightly more impressive.

Not having seen the effect in person, I can't really say if I'd want it here, but I don't think I'd protest it. However, in the mean time, I think an adequate approach would just be to dim the lights in the area. Make it really black. I think HBG2 has advocated this approach in the past, and I think it's a virtually costless gesture that's at least better than nothing.

ditto, that AND the creepy ghost like echoing sound effects added before and after the ghost host speaks. They just add a level of creepieness that the stretching room needs to be scary, plus the creaking of the room as it streches was awsome and made it creepier, the new lighntning sound was alot less cheesy and fake sounding, plus I heard that the boom that happens after the scream and the lights go out was A LOT louder and felt like an actual impact. I'd like an absolute copy of WDW's new stretching room audio.

I agree, and I wouldn't mind something else in that space, but seeing that this room is the exact shape and size of that effect, it's more of a possibility, and I also encouraged people to come up with original ideas, for instance, i'd suggest each HM in the world to have a different attic scene, WDW can have the Constance bride and we can have a Hatbox ghost and an AA bride that ALSO has projections integrated into it.

I think that's more of the idea for the stretching room, not the entire attraction, but I could be wrong

It's an interesting idea, but I tink that might elude the meaning of the scenes in the first place

Now that I have been to HM in Florida since the changes I have a strong opinion.

Change the Stretching room NOW. It doesn't need the creaking noises so much as the floating ghost host. Words can descibe howe amazing that is.

I'm cool about changing limbo but not with the endless staircase. It's too darn busy for that area. I'm all for making the area darker but the staircase would be a distraction IMO.

I think the MC Escher stairs would be out of place in the loading area. The mansion gets stranger as you journey deeper into it. Having the loading area be all trippy would make the following scenes degress. Think of it this way:

You start with hearing the ghost host. Next you imagine the room around you is stretching and can't seem to find a way out and even think you see a corpse hanging from the rafters for a second. Then you walk down a hallway where your eyes play tricks on you with the painting and busts. Your journey then takes you up a flight of stairs where a suit of armor seems to move and a candlestick is floating on its own. The headtrip continues as the halls are filled with knocks and doors seem to bend beyond physics, the house is coming to life. After we witness the floating disemboddied head of a medium, we pass the point of no return and delve into the maddness of this haunted mansion.

To go from "those busts are watching me..." to a room with crazy stairs to "did that armor just move?" seems a bit jaunting. If the stairs were somehow able to take place after the hall of doors, it would make more sense. But that isn't possible with the attraction we currently have.

Datamiester.. can you tell me if the area were you walk before boarding could be enclosed from the rest of the "eschser stairway" effect, to allow for a new scene before you board the doombuggies?
