Things Imagineering has done right at the Disneyland Resort in the past ten years!

What things do you think Imagineering has done right, at the Disneyland Resort, in the past ten years. So let's see your list. And these don't all have to be major things.

Refurbishing and retaining most of the original Tiki Room Show
Making the Tiki Room Entrance more noticable
    Bringing back the Electrical Parade
    Reopening the Submarine Voyage
Soarin' Over California ride vehicle, movie, and music.
Animation Lobby with the various scenes of the different animated movie along with the special lighting.
    Remember Dreams Come True Fireworks
Christmas Fireworks show followed by "Snow"
    Haunted Mansion Holiday
    Talk to Stitch in Innoventions
    Gold Vehicles for the 50th
Cast Members lining the street on July 17, 2005
The Gold Mouse ears on July 17th 2005
The new scenes to the Haunted Mansion
Adding Captain Jack Sparrow and the score for the movie to a couple scenes in Pirates, and the larger "cannonball" splashes.
Painting the facade of Small World to the original white and gold
The removal of some of the Boardwalk Games.

Don't forget the restoration of general maintenance standards. The fact that the park looks great right now and even that pales in comparison to how it looked during the 50th is pretty impressive, especially considering how it looked during the Heart of Darkness. I mean, the Pressler Era.

And don't forget Space Mountain coming back with a vengeance! I deeply grieve the absence of the FX-1 (the orange geodesic satellite), but other than that, I think the post-2005 version is a definite improvement. Still room for plussing, but it's a great attraction.

Adding Captain Jack Sparrow and the score for the movie to a couple scenes in Pirates, and the larger "cannonball" splashes.
Well, I'd only count the last of those as something they did right, but that's just me.

These will be individual lists, no one will agree on other lists completely, so please just list your favorites, and don't knock anyones favorites. This will NOT be an all encompassed agreed on list. These are YOUR PERSONAL favorites. If there are some things you don't agree with on other personal lists, just don't include them in your own list. Only list things you like. Don't mention things you don't like (you can start a different thread for for that, if you like ) Thanks!

Oh, feel free to add additional items that you like, but forgot to include.

To be fair, not all of these were from WDI. Fireworks, Haunted Mansion Holiday, Parades, general upkeep of the park, these are all other departments that have filled in these shoes.

So if you want to make it an overall "Things done right in the last decade at the Disneyland Resort", then you can include them.

And what is disappointing for me is that the 50th Anniversary Fireworks WAS indeed the greatest thing in the last 10 years.

Followed by Haunted Mansion Holiday and improvements to Haunted Mansion and Jungle Cruise in general.

I also love what they have done with the Enchanted Tiki Room. It looks gorgeous and I love just being there.

I agree with everything on this list and to add a few:

The addition of the paranahs in the Jungle Cruise
The new Haunted Mansion attic scene (love the disappearing heads )
    Buzz Lightyear
Pirates Lair and the new life it brought to an otherwise dead area
    This year's Christmas Castle
The general increase every year of Christmas decorations

Frankly, these lists point to just how much Disney has been resting on its laurels since 1994.

When did Casa Del Zocalo and the white & gold paint job for Small World come around? I can't recall when those changes happened.

-Projections on Small World for fireworks as an alternative to watching it from the hub.

Thanks for starting this thread! I feel there's way too much negative energy on micechat.

the Small World repaint happened after the Holiday overlay was removed in 2005. It was for the 50th.

If I might be a little more specific:

The 2nd lift on Space Mountain - gives me vertigo!
The piranha effect in Jungle Cruise (previously mentioned)
    Certainly all of FNSV
Adding a locomotive and honoring Ward Kimball by naming it for him
    Tom Morrow

Finally: Doing their best to keep the faith through a tough decade with the specter of down-sizing, out-sourcing, and silly corporate synergy looming over their every day.

Cool Re: Things Imagineering has done right at the Disneyland Resort in the past ten years

I've thought of starting this type of thread, although in my mind I was only considering the post-Pressler era. I don't think I've seen the Autopia upgrade, MInc or ToT mentioned, but agree with most everything else. Can't think of any real duds except for Pooh, which preceeded CM Matt, and the rockin' SM thing that was temporary, so, no harm, no foul. Well, Bugs land leaves me lacking, but I've mainly thought in DL terms here.

So, for the most part, I'm seeing a lot of positive creativity in the last few years. Of course, some will never have the constitution to be able to differentiate between something done well and something that they don't personally like. In other words, a vegan might find it hard to acknowledge that a steak can taste great.

    A bientot.
