Disney's Grand Californian Hotel Chaning Name
Disney's Grand Californian Hotel and Spa will be getting a name change. The Disney Vacation Club expansion will be called "The Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Resort and Spa". So it looks like it will be going from the Grand Californian Hotel to the Grand Californian Resort.
Not a big name change but I don't like it. Sounds too much like Walt Disney World.

Isn't that Jay Rasulo's shtick now, to make all the resorts the same?
I like the new name. I think "resort" sounds more appealing than "hotel".
Re: Disney's Grand Californian Hotel Chaning Name
so the Disneyland Resort now has a resort within a resort they're saying? what's so resort-y about the grand californian that it gets the name resort? it has restaurants a spa a pool and timeshare buildings... but would anyone go to spend a vacation in the grand californian alone?:P

More breaking news: the decision of whether or not to rename Anaheim as "Anaheim Resort" will soon be made. Furthermore, a new pool complex may be added to the Grand Californian Resort as a celebration of the Decade of a Million Dreams, featuring twinkly lights on the bottom that change colors when you shoot them. They're calling it the "Disney Dream Pool Resort on The Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Resort and Spa." ;)

Or by its catchy abbreviation, DDPRVDGCRS.
Re: Disney's Grand Californian Hotel Chaning Name
Why must they insist on changing things that don't need it? Especially since the hotel is very successful I don't see the reasoning behind it. Now they have to go ahead and spend the thousands of dollars to replace signs around the area when the money could have been spent elsewhere. Even worse it doesn't sound better than hotel. :???:
Re: Disney's Grand Californian Hotel Chaning Name
So hold on...
When ca adventure came Disneyland became Disneyland Resort and If they change the name of grand californian hotel to resort then its a resort in a resort but less fun and not with rides and with beds. but if the city is changed to anaheim resort then it becomes a resort in a resort in a resort with all diferent places you pay individually as if its all seperate or pay a price equil to just buying it all seperitly but you dont get enough time to do it all but maybe just over 1/4th of it all!!!
I smell MONEY and why its not flying to my wallet now you know.

Heh, I read that as Disney deprived golf clubbers. LOL
Re: Disney's Grand Californian Hotel Chaning Name
A (Napa) Rose by any other name...
Stayed there for the first time a few weeks ago. Such a magnificent hotel that it really wouldn't matter what they called it. If I ever go back to Disneyland, I'd certainly make it my first port of call even if it was named Disney's Pile of Cheese and Biscuits Resort. Actually, if they called it that, I'd make it a point to go back...
Re: Disney's Grand Californian Hotel Chaning Name
I can see how this name change can help Disney. I have always said why bother staying at the GCH when for the same price you can stay at a resort hotel with much more luxurious settings and arguably better service in Newport or Laguna.
By renaming it a resort hopefully this will cause people visiting OC to at least take a look at it.
Re: Disney's Grand Californian Hotel Chaning Name
Wait...you mean, when I go to this resort, I won't get to ride as many rides as I can at the Disneyland Resort? AND WHERE'S MY CHURRO?! ;)
Re: Disney's Grand Californian Hotel Chaning Name
Quite simply, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Simple as that.

Of course, imagine the "Food Network Challenge" shows they'd be able to stage there.;)
Re: Disney's Grand Californian Hotel Chaning Name
The Grand Californian Resort is located in the Disneyland Resort which is located in the Anaheim Resort..... Is a "Resort" really a Resort if its located within a larger resort which is itself inside another larger Resort.
