    "Fairies" at DCA

I see on Jim Hill's site that Disney is starting a new line of merchandise for little girls, which they hope will rival the Princess line of stuff they are shoving down our throats. This is Tinkerbell's area and she and her little friends are going to be on everything under the sun, but the pics on Jim's site show the little statues that are coming out soon. They remind me of several Fairy Tale lines that are already out there, but most of all some of the characters look to me to be complete rip offs of several of the female Elves from Wendy Pini's Elfquest stories. One of them looks just like Leeta and several others look just like other Elfquest girls. Take a look and see if you notice the simmalarities to Elfquest.

I've noticed that Tinkerbell is being marketed a whole lot more too. I just figured it was because of Disneyland's 50th celebration since her flying in front of the castle is a major deal. Disney sure has a way of convincing people to accept what they decree as being popular. First it was Winnie the Pooh, then it was the princesses, now it's the fairies! With Disney's marketing clout, I'm sure they'll be able to pull this off.

Also, I don't mean to nitpick here, but I think Tink is a pixie not a fairy.

    Thank you, Marc Davis!

Or Tick people off to the point of Revolt, which i hope doesn't happen because i am quite fond of Tink. Our 1 year old will be trick-or-treating this year as Tinkerbell, as we bought the costume on clearance last year when she was just a baby. I hope we are not met by dozens of other "Tinks" if she becomes trendy!

first off Yes Tink is a pixie not a fairy

    how dare they...hmmph...(fairy my foot)

secondly I have mixed feelings about the new marketing push
first off Tink is my favorite of all Disney charactors (never would have guessed that would you ) so with the new push I can finaly find Tink merch that used to be almost impossable to find, BUT now she is so trendy (and I have always tried to stay away from trendy) she will always be my favorite, and that will not change, but part of the appeal was that she was a unique favorite charactor...ot everyone was obsessed with her...(oh well at leat I got a Tink glass and Key chain...those used to be hard to find.)

but...if tink is a pixie, then how does she die when someone says, "I don't believe in fairies"?
You would think that being in New York for eight months out of the year would be cool...not when the closest thing you have to Disneyland is the World of Disney Store on Madison.

Instead of (or at least along with) such heavy marketing of toys, I think a PixieLand could be very fun!

A pixie is a small sprite, a fairy is a magical being usually more spiritual than mortal. I'm not sure if a pixie is a type of fairy, but that was a very good question someone asked about why Tink can be killed by someone saying they don't believe in fairys. I'm honestly not sure what the connection between pixies and fairys is.

As long as she looks cute and not cross-eyed, I'm all for this!

They are backing all of the new "Fairies" stuff with a book written by the woman who made Ella Enchanted. It's Called "Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Egg", and it's having a book signing along with a produst release on the 28th at the Disneyland Resort.

For those who are interested, the event is from 2:30-4:30 in the Brisa Courtyard of the Grand Californian Hotel on August 28th.

^^ Does the event cost money? I'd like to go.

They're handing out little booklets about this new Faeries thing when you park at Mickey and Friends.. I just got one today.. and it seems like something cool.

hmmmmm.... allow me to be bitter for a moment, but it must be easy making a story with pre-exsisting characters.....

I think only one of the characters is pre-existing?
