    Photos 08/17/05

I went to Disneyland for the first time since July 17th (exactly one month) yesterday, and I was very excited to take my brand new Sony Cybershot DSC-W7 out for a spin. It was a great day for me personally, since I hadn't seen my girlfriend in over 3 weeks, and we were celebrating our 1 year anniversary at the Blue Bayou (our first time eating there). Anyway, here are some photos...

Before I start, this is really the FIRST time I've used my camera, and I was still fooling around with the settings and whatnot. I also don't have my tripod yet (next week)...

We got to the park about 10 minutes after opening. It's always fun to get there before the crowds do for a more intimate look at Disneyland.

The weather has been really strange in Southern California. It looks like it's going to rain in the mornings, gets pretty hot during the day, then gets really cold again in the evening...

A fun experiment with the shutter speeds while spending time in the Space Mountain queue...

Waiting for the VMK quizzes to get checked before heading off to Buzz Lightyear...

Speaking of Buzz, turns out I had the highest score so far that day. Rank 1!!!

Afterwards, Lauryn and I headed over to the Blue Bayou, and had our first Monte Cristo! I was skeptical on how good it was, since everyone kept saying so, but it's true, it's absolutely great!

After the Monte Cristo and crab cakes lunch, we were too full to walk, so we decided to hop on the train at New Orleans Square, ride to Main Street Station, and then head over to the peace and quiet of DCA

It seemed like there were more people in the Hollywood Backlot than usual, so we decided to follow and see what was going on. Turns out that Aladdin was about to begin, and since we hadn't seen it in ages, it would be fun. (To be honest, I felt it would be a good place to take a nap... Sssshhh don't tell Lauryn!

I also spotted Molly Mallard (thank you for the correction Villians Fan!) and Chicken Little signing autographs...

Lauryn went to the Bathroom, and with Aladdin just letting, it seemed that many women had the same idea! I watched a few Pluto cartoons on my PSP to pass the time. What the heck kinda face is that Pluto?!?!

Eventually, the sun started to set, and this was the main reason why I wanted to come to DCA in the first place... Great Photos with no one in the way of the shots! Here they are...

Full Moon was out last night too...

I also have pictures of Remember... Dreams Come True from It's A Small World, but I'll post those later...

I LOVE my new digital camera... and to show you how crappy my old one was...

    Like night and day!

Wow - I'm the one who needs tips from you! Great framing, excellent lighting on the night shots (I love the Paradise Pier ones!), and very steady hands for no tripod. You have a natural eye for good shooting, that's for sure.

Glad you guys got to experience the park. We are going to be there in October for our birthdays - I think it will be Sunday the 16th for the regular meet, but we might be there a couple of days earlier.

Hope to see you guys; I wanna check out your camera!

Very nice pictures, I love it when people add comments with insight and context to Disneyland pictures because it makes you feel more like you're there. You can just imagine the entire situation, instead of just a split second of it with commentary added.

I'm curious about that PSP, how do you play video on it? Is there any storage capacity where you can store downloaded movies on it or are there mini DVD's that you use to play video? It looks very neat, and very sharp and now I'm really considering buying one to pass the time in lines like that. I'm curious where to get the Pluto cartoons for it too, I love the Disney animated shorts from the 40's and 50's.

I'd hate to see how big of a bodyguard someone like THIS needs! He looks like he could seriously mess someone up by himself.

I heard M. Night Shayamalan had a falling out with Disney and directs for Warner Brothers now. Maybe he was afraid he'd see Eisner at the park and need a bodyguard to hold him back from beating Eisner up. Then again, I don't think Eisner would ever be caught dead in Disneyland without a camera crew taping a commercial or shooting a "look how much I care about Disneyland" special.

I know this is a matter of personal taste, its the wrong forum, and that I have started several multi-page arguments about this man and his films on other message boards, but ...

...I like those two films better than The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, which I both enjoy.

Happy to see he enjoys the magic of Disneyland.

Great pictures Soulquarian ! I like how you added the comments to make it like a little mini trip report. I'm jealous you could get pictures of the castle without barely anyone around it, I always seem to take pictures when it looks like the tour bus had just stopped in front and let everyone off . Your night pictures of PP are phenominal! And congrats on your Buzz score, now I have something to aspire for

With the PSP, you store memory on Memory Stick Pro Duos (MSPD). They're smaller and faster versions of the larger Sony Memory Sticks. PSP's come with a a 32mb card, but I bought a 1GB card about a month ago. One of the reasons I picked a Sony Digital Camera is because that same 1GB card can work for both the camera and the PSP. Cheaper for me and my meager budget...

You can buy UMD movies (Universal Media Discs) for your PSP, or you can put your own movies on your MSPD. There advantages and disadvantages to both. A UMD holds 1GB of memory, and as a result, the movies will always be clearer than anything you can put on your PSP. However, they're fairly expensive. Also, they'll run your battery down faster since they're constantly reading from the UMD drive. As for the MSPD, you can put whatever you want on them, and there are tons of places to get free video, magazines, music, etc. Your battery lasts hours longer too, since the only thing the PSP is accessing is the MSPD. However, the higher the quality, the more space it takes up. If you don't have a high capacity card, your out of luck, and 1GB MSPD's retail for about $150.

Disney hasn't released any cartoons on UMD yet, but Buena Vista has released a lot of movies from their Miramax and Walt Disney Pictures divisions. I have every Walt Disney Treasure tin, and I use a program to rip a copy off, and then compress them. After that I put them in my PSP and go. Really simple...

Personally, I love the PSP, and now that I have a Sony Digital Camera, I can take pictures and put them on the PSP instantly. There aren't a whole lot of games yet, but the multimedia functions are great. As a matter of fact, this week you'll be able to surf the web on an official web browser and use a AVC format for home made movies. AVC is a lot higher quality than Mpeg4, and it uses a lot less space too. For example, I had a 27 mb movie, and I shrunk it down to 9 with better sound and video playback...

If you have any other questions, send me a PM.

Just a small correction in one of your captions - That is not the Ugly Duckling, it is Molly Mallard, Crazy Legs got her autograph a week or so back, cause I thought it was the Ugly Duckling too!

Love the quality of your photos, congrats on your new camera and your talent picking out great shots!
