Re: Whats broken on the Jungle Cruise?

Some stories and fun times need to be added to the big Jungle Cruise thread. I miss it so.

Last trip we went on Jungle, the skip blew past the flashing signal light.

Luckily, she turned around to see everyone on dock shouting at her to back up immediately. :: shakes head :: I remember that people used to get in a heap of trouble for doing that much...

(To make matters worse, when we finally backed up to good ol' Trader Sam, she had nothing at all to say the whole time. Cookie cutter scripts still need some alternate lines for stalling...)

There is also a #4 which is Boat storage Main/Spur... so there ya go magic spoiled sorry!

To explain the lights. Both green lights are Main. I'm trying to remember this but I'm 95% certain top red is Storage and bottom red is Catwalk... it's been a while, I'd have to look to be 100%.
Thanks. Trust me, after being stuck on the boat with a skipper who stopped the boat only twice, was speaking so fast with the mic so close to his mouth, and waiting 10 minutes at Trader Sam's with all 4 lights flashing, nothing will ruin the magic. Besides, I like to see the behind the scenes stuff

I know there's been several cosmetic changes to them but are these essentially the same boats from 1955?
I'm literally a born Disney fan! I was born at Providence St. Joseph Med Center right across the street from Disney Studios in Burbank. The same hospital where Walt died.

No... these are larger boats, and 2 were consequently retired from the fleet. To get a basic understanding of how much larger... the front guide used to be under the bow so Captain's crate (big box directly behind the Skip) would be about 1-2ft from the tip of the old boat.

I want to say the old boats were 30 max... these can hold 45... I stress can because what it holds is entirely dependent on the size of individuals and the skill of the loaders.

I know it'd be expensive and kill the inherent "charm" in having a chugging adventure boat, but I wonder if the electric system that powers the subs could (or should) be applied to the boats? That'd quiet things down in a hurry.

This is my thinking, If Disneyland use That System you lose the boat feeling of rock and rolling.

Re: Whats broken on the Jungle Cruise?

The PA is the only part of the ride that I think needs a little bit of a touch up. Some Skippers talk so fast and so loud into the mic, that it's almost impossible to hear.
My favorite line that some Skippers say is actually one of the last lines of the ride. During the exit, the line goes something like this:

"Please watch your head and watch your step. If you manage to trip and hit your head, watch your language."

This makes me laugh so hard every time.

Because there's kids around, and some of them might correct your pronunciation... trust me that's embarrassing, an adult should know how to say it properly!
    - M.M. (no not Mickey Mouse, a Skipper who I will always associate with this joke)

I must get to bed. I may author a joke thread in the morning... possibly highlight blending again and encourage some creativity... then again the character thread pretty much died so no clue. Antics is still alive, on life support, but alive... fun read for anyone interested.

Well, we did the Jungle Cruise twice on our trip to DLR at the end of May, and each skip gave maybe a 50-60% different spiel, with some genuinely funny lines. Plus, the gags were all different from the spiel we got at WDW, so I am happy with the variations. The first skip did hold the mic a little too close to his mouth, though. The second skip was better, and was really into it.

For those of you who know all the gags by heart...you're doing the rides too many times! What, do you expect the Ghost Host to change his spiel to keep you better entertained?

No,no! They have to say that one, it's as much a part of the ride as the lions.
