    Grad Night Prank

Hi everybody! I got an account on Micechat a few weeks ago and I'm finally posting my first thread. Here I go!

My boyfriend’s former high school (St. Augustine in San Diego) was banned from Grad Night for a number of years after an incident that occurred on Tom Sawyer’s Island. Apparently they commandeered the rafts, launched a full invasion and occupation of the island, and even took CMs as “hostages.” Does anybody know anything about this? I couldn't find any info about it online, and I suspect that this account may be an embellishment of a much milder incident. Thanks!

Well, I know Abbie Hoffmann and the Yippies claimed they were going to take over Tom Sawyer's Island in 1970 (link with pictures!), but it never got to the hostage-taking stage. The Wikipedia entry for St. Augustine's mentions an incident (as does the Grad Nite entry), but there's no source given, so who knows.

How exactly does one get "banned from Grad Night for a number of years"? By definition you only get one grad night.

Well, schools generally have graduating classes every year, so everyone gets to suffer for the actions of a group of idiots they probably never heard of.

That's exactly what happened with me. Our class couldn't go because some stupid seniors a few years before me decided to toss stuff en masse out of the monorail.

I graduated in 86. I guess sonme things never change.

Yep....of course, it was just hanging around in orange groves back then, because Disneyland wasn't around...

But you still had drugs, alcohol, sex, and general stupidity from a few that brings a bad name to everyone else.

    Aashee,
It would be intersting to know when they started. I went in '94 and I know it was around a while before that, '86 is the earliest I've heard of, but it probably goes back further. Anyone know the first year or went longer ago than '86?
The Mickey audience is not made up of people; it has no racial, national, political, religious or social differences or affiliations; the Mickey audience is made up of parts of people, of that deathless, precious, ageless, absolutely primitive remnant of something in every world-wracked human being which makes us play with children’s toys and laugh without self-consciousness at silly things, and sing in bathtubs, and dream and believe that our babies are uniquely beautiful. You know…the Mickey in us.

I went to grad night twice. Once for me in 97 and once for my boyfriend at the time in 98. The Aquabats played at the 98 gradnight! Love them.

    Never heard of that one.

Last night someone apparently thought it would be a funny prank to jump out of their car at Pinocchio and start damaging the scenery. He was escorted away by many security guards and there's a chance his school may have been banned for future years.

Some "pranks" are just not funny, people.

But I don't want to go among MAD people!
