I don't know how they'd do it, and I don't think it'll happen in the near future, but I'd sure love to see it happen! That would be a pretty sweet addition to the park and, as someone said above, something that's not a clone of another ride!

The boats will switch to a different flume once they leave the fort bombardment and move into what is currently back stage area where they can construct show scenes for it.Originally Posted by Tony

I would love it, but I would also love the subs returned and not with a Nemo overlay.

I think that it would be awesome but it is really difficult for me to want to mess with a classic such as POTC .... I think it would be fun for certain people but I always find the cornyness part of the attraction of the ride ...
Well, think of it this way. In the movie, the pirates were normal by day, but skeletons by night. See what I mean?Originally Posted by stinkerbell

Those changes to the ride would be great! However, like how "Snow White's Adventures" changed to "Snow WhitesScaryAdventures" after parental complaints, POTC would probably have multiple warnings prior to the ride or an after dark name change, ala "Space Mountain" in the day and "Rocket Mountain" by night.
Don't think it will happen. The daily ride numbers for Pirates are way too good to change it that much. But I love the idea!
I heard this rumor too, but I think its much more likely to be done at WDW where the POTC attraction is not "the original," designed by Walt. Disney often has issues messing with his "classics", and rightly so.

Very true, for example the terrible Tiki Room Under New Management versus the Original Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room
I would be totally in favor of this (and I love POTS' original vision/version).

Well, I've said it before and I'll say it again... if pirates stays as is, I'll be fine.
If they plus it in a sensible way that actually adds to the attraction, I'll be fine.
However, I've definitely seen the ride with virtually no line even after the movie came out, so making two rides out of one would help. Now, if only they could do something about all those levels added for Fantasmic, that'd be another dream come true for me. Well, and get rid of the stinkin' tarzan eyesore in the middle of the path to NOS... and put FP for Splash back by the HM exit so people don't have to walk into the heart of darkness and back again to get 'em... but enough about that.
I still think, if they don't want to reorganize so they can use the side flume, just use the skeletons in the caves for the moonlight effects. A couple shafts of "moonlight" here and there, and maybe a transformation or two, and playing up the "cursed treasure" in the room. heck, they could even make that part of the gag. Hand out plastic "cursed coins" to the guests as souvenirs, but leave a recepticle at the end where they can return the cursed coins if they have fear of evil curses.
i just hope that they dont kill yet another ride with adding movie references to it.... POTC is the original, lets keep it that way and not dirty up the name
Interesting rumor!
Just noticed that a thread was already made about this announcement but it's on the third page! Nevertheless, I think it's a great idea, and I can't wait to see it come to fruition...

I think a lot of people didn't read the article. As far as kids go, there will be numerous announcements to inform parents of the darker change to the ride. There are also numerous options for families with small children if they deem the ride to scary for their tykes. And who gets on POTC with small children that late anyway, must be trying to get them to sleep I'm sure! Also, by adding this element, Disneyland can attract an audience that they have neglected for a long time... Teenagers. Now I KNOW what a pain teenagers are at Disneyland, with their blatant disregard for anyone's personal enjoyment but their own, but the fact is, many of them don't like Disneyland because of the fact that there aren't many offerings for them. I have always loved Disneyland, and even though I am only 20 years old, I have a historical interest in the park. My friends however, hate Disneyland! If teenagers began to increase in numbers, that money could be well spent to create more rides! Just look at what Haunted Mansion holiday did with Goth youths!
I see nothing but good and positive things stemming from this choice. And as far as changing the original pirates, there's no interference at all! The regular POTC will be the same, seeing as the new effects will be behind the original ones. Those that like their classic POTC can ride it in the day... I'll be riding all the time!
