Clearly you haven't read the article, because if you had, you would know that the only "theme" they are incorporating is the skeleton ghost things. The only reason they would be putting it off is to see if the Pirates movies are popular enough to spend the money to add this variation of the ride.Originally Posted by VWSpawn
I did read the article, it doesn't make sense to me to add this new area when they can tweak the ride as is to fit this concept and keep it not so scary for lil kids.Originally Posted by Tech_Disney
Now this is something that I would love, personally. Will it happen? Probably not. There doesn't seem to be any motivation in the article for it to be falsified, but the changes would be drastic enough for me to doubt its ever happening.
On the other hand, the boats could branch around to the LEFT of the Wicked Wench at night, where the skeletal AA figures would be hanging out (perhaps that side could even be painted to look like the Black Pearl). Then the flumes could scoot BEHIND the existing villiage set pieces (again, to the left), using constuction on the back sides of the town for the "night ride" sets. I live in Northern Cal, so I'm not a big expert but...it kinda seems like it could be done.
As to the appeal, well - the original ride would still be there, just expanded. Purists wouldn't have to freak out. When I was a kid, the skeletons on Pirates scared me (like the abominable snowman on the Matterhorn and pretty much all of the Haunted Mansion), but once I got over it (Indiana Jones desensitized me when it came out) the slight scariness made it one of my favorite rides. Secondly, it WOULD appeal greatly to teenagers - the POTC movie is an absolute favorite of myself and all of my friends. Thirdly, Pirates is perhaps Disneyland's most iconic and universally-loved ride, so an update would not only skyrocket it to new godlike popularity but cause those who have grown somewhat dulled to it over the years to have their interest reignited. If Disney's gonna spend that money anywhere, this Pirates redo would be the best deal. Period. It would be a vacation-seller all it's own.
Uh, so anyway, yeah . . . it's a good idea, and they might just be able to cough up the dough.![]()
Right... Look at the successes of HMH and iaswh. Disneyland has finite space, and a successful solution has been to enhance classic attractions at certain times while maintaining the classic attractions as they are for the bulk of the year.Originally Posted by Ascendant
If Disney can keep the classic PotC experience intact, AND provide a brand new experience in the same space, that's an idea to keep developing. It's not a priority project compared to Tomorrowland, but it's not something to toss out either.
See, George Lucas? I'm not the only one! [<-- i.e. this is not my site]

"There are fashions in reading, even in thinking. You don't have to follow them unless you want to."

if they "tweaked" the existing ride, the Disney purists would kill everyone in TDA. they may even burn down that ugly yellow building.Originally Posted by VWSpawn
Another reason for the split track is so they can accomplish a smooth transition from reagular pirates in the day to cursed pirates at night. The idea of the ride changing at night "in the moonlight," is one of the most important parts of this project and so they would need to make it so they could replace everything every night or split the track. Disney, or Jim Hill, obviously chose the method that is more difficult in the beggining, but the simpler plan for the long run.
