Yes, this was news that was given to all of entertainment. Its supposed to happen when Fantasmic goes down for refurbishment.

Ursala was awesome, I hope she makes a return someday.

As to why she was removed, cost.
Her barge needed to be repaired and instead she was just cut out all together. Back in the day the barge itself (sans Ursala) was sitting back by the float building, i'm sure it's long gone now.

I miss this barge every time I watch the show. It was my mother's favorite and it makes her sad every time she doesn't see it. I'm sure they could update it and make it even cooler than it used to be. That whole middle stretch feels like it's too long without a float and relies too heavily on the water projections. Particularly because it goes directly from that to the Bald Mountain sequence. It's just too darn long a time.

I miss the giant Ursula every time I watch Fantasmic. It was so imposing and impressive and added a lot. I do remember, though, that when she was still around there were often nights when she wouldn't make it out, so in addition to any other reasons for eliminating her completely, it seems she simply may have just not been all that reliable.

When I first saw Ursula in Fantasmic it was a WOW moment for the show. I saw her lips sync pretty good to the show, unlike some of the comments. She fit very well with the whole theme of the show. I miss her today. She really could add a big moment if she was added back.

Ursula in Fantasmic! added so much to the show! Urusula was operated a type of puppets, so they did match up the words and the mouth movement beautifully. Seeing her tentacles float on the Rivers of America seemed so perfect! And her eyes lit up (did her eyes blink, too? ) It gave that whole segment that extra Wow! that the mist screens needed. And seeing her larger than life was appropriate for her character. Without the Ursula barge, that entire segment just isn't nearly as "evil".

This is what I've heard over the years: The Ursula barge puppet was built by an outside company (not Disney) and when it needed to be repaired, that company was no longer around and/or the specs on the puppet could not be located, and Disney basically cheaped out, and decided not to replace it.

I believe that was the Pressler era, wasn't it? The era of cheap whenever possible...

No, I disagree with that. Disney has proved themselves a few times (after the reign of terror by Eisner and Pressler) that Disney will now spend the extra money now. Midway Mania is an example that the build on the cheap appears to have disappeared.

Now, with a little talk about enhancing F!, by adding F & J to the Ursula segment, it's a good sign. Granted, Talk is cheap, but when things start happening, trust is being re-established.

Another example is the dream suite. Although we were all pissed when they took out the gallery, just look at the detail and how much each of us want to win it. One of us has won and the pictures just makes everyone drool.

    You're welcome for the video.

If you're at the F! and when Ursula says the T-word, look at the people's reactions around you. Oh yes, everyone hears the same thing.

I wonder if Flotsam & Jetsam are going to appear on the Monkey/Princess barges or as their own barge ala Peter Pan Croc? Speaking of which, why has that been missing and why is the Columbia being pushed by a raft?

Thumbs up Re: Fantasmic!: THe Ursula Barge

I totally remember her adn was bummed when they took her out. It was kinda cheesy in technology even then, but the visual was still fun

I also remember that when they eliminated her from the show, she was relocated for a time to a storage place near the parking lot at Angel Stadium (when Disney owned the team).
It may have zippity to do with doo-dah
