Fantasmic!: THe Ursula Barge

Who remembers seeing this? I also, found this on You Tube and wanted to share this to those who haven't see it.

The Ursula barge debuted with Disneyland (CA) Fantasmic's May 13, 1992 opening. But was later dropped after a couple years. There are different stories as to the reason why this barge was dropped. One was the driver of the Crocodile barge or a pirate from the ship had to make their way to the Ursula barge to operate it. It became time consuming and the Ursula barge stopped operating. Another story, which I find more truth to, the inflatable tentacles had wear and tear and leaked air out. Disney didn't want to spend the money to repair or get new tentacles, so the barge is just sitting in the Fantasmic dock along Rivers of America.

From that small clip there I think I'm glad they took her out there. The words she says in the water don't look the match up to that puppet or what ever it was. U know how they have her in Parade of Dreams her month moves with the words she says. Hope u guet what I mean.

Never got to see the F! float, but I agree with Capt Hook. It would look better if her mouth was synchronized with the soundtrack.

Well, the technology's gotten a lot better in the last 15 years. If they still had the Ursula barge in Fantasmic, chances are she'd have gotten an upgrade by now to make the lipsynch better. Think of the barge as an early beta version of what eventually became the PoD Ursula float.

I miss the barge. It added so much to that section. An Ursula projected onto water doesn't seem nearly as menacing.

I remember this!! I really loved it and thought it added to the show. It's sad that it's no longer in the show.

I'm the same, I was five too. I most remember how hot the fire was on the lake. It helps that my Dad took a video that night, keeps the memory fresh the older I get lol

Its funny. I was at the park Tuesday, watching F! with some friends, and I kept waiting for the barge! Im thinking "Humm, must be broken today". The thing is, I havent seen Fantasmic in a LONG time. Its always been just a GREAT time to hit rides after I saw it a few times in the 90's.

The video isnt synced because its on Youtube. When I worked there they had the float, and it was a good addition to the show. Heck if they need someone to drive the float, I will do it for free!

I'm in a Fantasmic! mood tonight. The Ursula barge never really worked right, imho. The arms rarely were in sync with each other and some nights the mouth worked, sometimes it didn't. It's a neat idea, but the show doesn't lose anything by it not being there any more.

Perhaps they may try and bring something similar back when they add Flotsam and Jetsam soon.
