Well many of you have heard of last week's Windows 2000 crash at Disneyland. But are all of the computers at Disneyland running Windows?
No. Take the kisosks in the music store. You know, the ones that used to have the Disneyland Forever music.
So, what do you figure they're running on.
Is it a bird?
A Plane?
NO! Its...
Mac OS! It should be mentioned, by the way, that when I returned to the music shop several hours later, it was still showing the same screen.

it's 9.2.. it worked for long enough.. replace it with a new computer with Mac os X... that will work better...
and Macs are harder to mess up...
I think the whole system needs some maintanence... bring back DL Forever! Or at least replace it with something cool.
why do people hate on macs so much. In my home we have both a mac and a PC and i gotta tell you the truth... Id much rather use the mac than the Windows OS. Ive never had a problem with it while the family PC frequently goes down for one reason or another.
So the comps crashed at Disneyland? what happened? did anyone (guests) even know?
As long as my AP still works...
ps. for all you microsoft lovers. did you know bill gates used mac comps using os x to power the xbox 360 for demo play at E3 this past year? bill knows whats up, but hes in too deep now!

I have no issue with Macs, I find the Windows operating system to be more user friendly; though it crashes more.

This thread is about the use of older Mac softwear at Disneyland, not about whether Mac or Windows is superior. Threads on that topic can be started in the Tech Lounge.
Well Disney contracts a lot of hardware out. Its not like Disney has anything exclusive with any OS maker or hardware maker. For something like a kisosks, I think I would ALSO go with Mac OC since Win OS has a LOT of useless overhead that cant be stripped out easy, but Mac OS can. Mac parts DO run a lot more expensive then IBM, but since its a rather simple kisosks, they dont need anything more then what is needed to do its job. OSX or XP would be a BAD BAD idea to put on anything that was built on OS 9.2 since that hardware must be very old and rather slow. Its a simple kisosks!
Also, to be honest, I would not trust a Windows run machine with my life. Thats what Linux is for! Did any of you read about the Windows 2000 run US Navy nuke Carrier? It failed. Nuff said

It's easy to take components out of Windows - On Windows Server 2003 I spent more time turning things back on...
(P.S. I do have an adgenda when it comes to Apple... I've spent the last six months systamaticly removing all the E-Macs from work... You can get Firewire on PC's, with the added advantage of being on the network... Even resorting to creating a new lab of 30 new Dell PC's just so they can do their precious video editing... Rant...)

Running all the various software the park needs is much much easier on OS X now, even(and especially) if they used it for an advanced unix machine. Kudos to them for the mac stuff =D
It's not surprising that they'd be using a mac thing for something like music. They use macs all over the studio for putting together video/audio anyways and back when those machines were put together os 9.2 is probably what the people related to that music department used anyways.
