Immamouse, I'm actually from suburban Chicago and am glad I got out of the blizzard belt. Yeah, between snowfall and brutal cold, you are having according to a news article the 5th snowiest winter (so far, might be worse since the winter isn't over yet) since they started keeping records in 1878 AND one of the coldest as well!
Kittyloaf, I'm glad you're safe in the dorm. The southern cities get paralyzed easily for whatever snow falls because they don't have as much equipment as up north and what equipment they have they rarely use (i.e., have been living in Nashville over 6 years and this is the first time (one day a few weeks ago) that they even salted (and they don't do the side streets, just the main roads, but this is the first time I even saw THAT)). A nudge of salt would do the trick, but otherwise, the cars drag the moisture on the tires and turn it into a glaze of ice + with the hills it is really treacherous, even if it wasn't an actual ice storm.
I'll be glad when this winter is over!
