Thanks for doing all the translation work, DuffyD. The way you do it makes it more believable. Google translate works in a pinch, but it's much more literal and doesn't sound as nice. I like what you did with the prologue.
It's nice that they are kind of giving a description of what the places in Cape Cod are there for. I don't know that it's been done like that. Sure, there have been pictures, and I know WDI has the "style bible", but I like that with these Duffy Travels pictures, they are giving us a little bit of backstory on things like Aunt Pegs, the Cannery, and Cape Cod Cook-Off. Sure, maybe minor things, but I like that.
Ponte Vecchio literally means "Old Bridge," and the real one still stands in Florence, Italy. There's a great legend about Hitler ordering his troops not to destroy this - and only this - bridge during the German retreat through Florence.
I wish the one in TDS had more shops on it, though. There's a popcorn vendor, a small souvenir stand, and a Disney Vacation Club kiosk which is only occassional, I think. A balloon vendor would really help create a marketplace atmosphere, and I think it would be nice to sell flowers here in the spring.^^
I'm not 100% confident in the most recent translations. It seems a bit odd to me that they jump right to Lido Isle, look back to New York as their first destination, and then return focus to Italy…
Still, even just the photos have this jump, and I had already been wondering why in the world characters who live in Cape Cod would head to Italy first, then New York, then Arabia. The itinerary makes a lot more sense with New York first, so I guess it must be right, but the structure is confusing…
I had thought, initially, of translating "春祭り" as "Spring Carnival," to make a reference to the preceding event. At first it seemed a more direct translation as "spring festival" was better, by virtue of being the most direct. The more I think about it, though, the more I find myself charmed by the idea that the festival attended by Duffy, Shellie and the Mouses is the same Spring Carnival from years past. For me this enriches the feeling that the cute quattro has actually stumbled upon a local tradition. I hope, if they do this event next year, that these shows all grow to be full shows, and that there are shows of some kind in Mysterious Island, Port Discovery, Mermaid Lagoon, and Lost River Delta, too. If not so much, I at least hope that the Mediterranean Harbor show and the Waterfront Park show are filled out, and maybe even a lottery for Waterfront Park.^^
Adding here, so as not to triple post. My computer just ate my long post. Very frustrated at the moment. Basically, I'm even more confused about Day 13 after reading today's update for Day 18. It seems to confirm that the itinerary is:
Lido Isle > New York > Arabian Coast
This seems like a strange route for a group of tourists from Cape Cod, but what makes it even more confusing is the fact that on Day 13, New York is described as "the start of our journey, our first destination." If that's the case, what's Lido Isle??? It's all a little confusing to me now, especially because I just can't imagine why four Cape Codders would put a visit to New York City in the middle of a trip to Italy and another to Arabia. Idongetit... Anybody have a great explanation, or can fix my translation?
By the way, in my first translation, I forced past tense. There actually isn't past tense in the Japanese original, so technically the second version should be more accurate, but then we have to wonder why Lido Isle isn't considered "the first destination???"
