Fairy Tales vs Classic Fairy Tales

The other night I was watching Sleeping Beauty with my fience who had never seen it before, when the pre-movie announcer said that this was Disney's third classic fairy tale. Since Sleeping Beauty was the 16th animated movie that Disney made, I started wondering just what was the difference between a 'classic fairy tale' and a 'fairy tale'? Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Fairy Tales vs Classic Fairy Tales

I guess they have to be around a while and well liked by many to make it into the CLASSIC category!!

Thanks, Wikipedia!
Thus, Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty are the first three animated fairy tales. Pinocchio isn't really considered to be a fairy tale, nor are Peter Pan or Alice. Just because they were stories before Disney manipulated them, doesn't automatically classify them in the Fairy Tale section.

Then what makes it a 'fairy tale'? It is because there's a prince and princess in it?
