Sad RIP Natasha Richardson

Natasha Richardson, 45 dies at NYC hospital, two days after suffering head injury in ski accident leaving her two children beind. I think most of us know her by her role as Lindsay Lohans mother in Disney's The Parent Trap.

Re: RIP Natasha Richardson

This is going to freak my wife out. Why? Just last Sunday, my oldest fell while playing on her Razor scooter and hit her head. The story is very similar... she had no visible trauma (just a lump) and was not wearing a helmet. She was not doing much and really just going from A to B on the scooter when she fell.

She was complaining of being tired and just wanting to sleep, so we rushed her to the hospital thinking she had a concussion. 45mins later she was listed as in critical condition, and was being airlifted to a trauma center for immediate brain surgery because she had an epidural hemorrhage (bleeding inside the skull) that was putting pressure on her brain. She had immediate surgery where they removed part of her skull, fixed the bleeding, and put her back together. She also had a depressed skull fracture which they put a plate over.

Lucky for us, she's back home already and should make a full recovery. But just as we weren't concerned about her just toodling along with her scooter out in front of the house without a helmet - why would you be worried about wearing a helmet just on the bunny slope right? Just goes to show.. it doesn't take much and things can change in an instant.

Re: RIP Natasha Richardson

After reading about her being hospitalized (in which it was mentioned that she seemed to be joking and in good spirits) I couldn't help but think of that way my Grandfather's wife was lost about 15 years ago. She fell from a ladder and hit her head pretty hard. We've always known her to be a very tough-as-nails woman and as was her nature she refused to be taken to the hospital. Slowly bleeding inside, she was gone about four days later.

So as you can imagine it sent a chill thru me to log onto CNN.com and read the headline that Ms. Richardson had passed, even after having thought of Grampa's beloved.

Hopefully people will now be a bit more mindful of head injuries that may not seem like much at the time. RIP, Natasha. This is very very saddening news.

I've been a fan of her and her husband. A sad loss in such a talented person.

Forever peace,

Re: RIP Natasha Richardson

When I heard she was in critical condition, I had a bad feeling about it. On my way home from work I heard the tragic news. So sad for Liam Neeson, their children and extended families. My mother died at 45 as well and my heart REALLY goes out to her children.

Re: RIP Natasha Richardson

Just sad. Unexpected...

Natasha Richardson won a well deserved Tony in 1998 for her poignant performance of Sally Bowles in the revival of "Cabaret."

I think this clip of her singing "Maybe This Time" from the show is rather appropriate:

ETA: Also, here's a link from Obit Magazine about Natasha Richardson's life. Great read.:
