Voice Actor April Winchell is reporting that Wayne Allwine, the current voice of Mickey Mouse, has passed away.

I understand that they've been searching for an understudy last month. I wonder if they found anyone in time.

That is truly awful...he's been performing the voice for so long.

It's equally sad that Russi Taylor, the voice of Minnie Mouse, his wife, will now have to be performing as Minnie without her husband. That seems sad as well.

Terrible.

I met him once at an event in Northern California and he was such a nice guy.

It'll be so weird to hear the "new" Mickey voice.

A Google search hasn't come up with any news releases. I was first notified of the passing from April Winchell, who also does voiceover work for Disney. And, Wayne's Wikipedia entry has been updated.

I went to April Winchell's web site and she says "RIP Wayne Allwine. He was only a year older than me.

^^ Wanye Allwine has done Mickey since 83. Walt Disney himself voiced Mickey for the character's first 20 years or so, then other people took over.
