"Serenity" and "Greatest Game"- What an afternoon!!!!!

Well folks, I did something I don't normally do- sat through two entire films back to back. I am pretty emotionally wrung out as they were two of the best movies I have seen in a long time.

First was Serenity. My husband and I are big fans of the series "Firefly", so we have been eagerly waitng and attending the first showing we could. All I can say is "WOW" If you aren't a fan- go see it. If you are, you cannot possibly have expected the movie to be this good. It certainly did not dissapoint me. I don't want to reveal anything, because there are lots of great, and not so great surprises. Just see it as soon as you can!

As for "Greatest Game"- well, this was everything I expected it to be. No one does a sports movie like Disney and they even made golf interesting and exciting. The opening credits are a little too "Monty Python" for me, but that would be my only complaint. Shia LeBouef (sp?) is really great- I hope this is a breakout role for him because he is very talented.

So fall has arrived and brought some great movies with it!

To quote All Aglow, "Twin Powers Unite!". That is exactly what I said to my hubby as we were walking out of the theater just beaming with excitement. He had to go back to work or we would have sit thru it again right away!

I'm glad you had such an enjoyable afternoon. We didn't get "Greatest Game" - so I'll be waiting for this one!

Actually, I was so sad after I left the theatre- I wanted to cry for hours.

Emotionally draining? I was just so happy that Serenity was so good! I was so very concerned that I would be disappointed. to you!

Well, some things happen that you wouldn't dream Whedon would ever do- I left wondering how the series could possible come back, or how sequels would even feel the same. He doesn't pull any punches, that's for sure. I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it, but I have never felt so personally hurt by a storyline. I guess he makes you feel so intimately connected with the characters that you feel it more deeply when something happens.

But, don't fear, it is incredibly witty- there is lots of laughter and funny one liners. Its sad, but funny and daring. It took the world to a whole new level, thats for sure- the characters also.

^^^ Completely understand! I can honestly say it was a story that sucked me in and spit me out - I was completely involved and transported into their world!

NNL - There is some backstory that is not explained, the main story stands alone fine by itself.
I hope you enjoy it! It far exceeded my expectations. Completely wrapped me up in their world and adventure.

Thanks, MTNGIRL! We'll see how it goes. Hey, it's more about the company than the movie.

I agree NNL, I don't think you will be confused at all. I do think, however, that you will want to watch the series afterwards to find out more. Lucky you know someone that owns it

Hubby and his brother are off to see Serenity this afternoon. I'll be anxious to hear his thoughts upon second viewing.
I'm with dq, those of you who have not seen the tv shows, its well worth a viewing. A very enjoyable western sci-fi!

Loved the film too for many reasons. What about the great score from David Newman?! Anyway, many of the elements you allude to have been put to great dramatic use by Joss before. Take a look at some of the later episodes of both Buffy and Angel. Both series finales had truly sad scenes, devastating even, with huge consequences and reverberations. It was great to see these characters reborn on the big screen and hope Universal decides to exercise the sequel options!
