UK's What's on TV magazine reports that Hustle and The Day After Tomorrow star Adrian Lester will join Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst in Spider-Man 3.

"I'll be going straight from promoting 'Hustle' to filming 'Spider-Man 3'," he said. "I haven't even had a script yet. All I know is that I'm playing a research scientist who tries to cure the baddie of whatever badness he's got. I don't even know who the new baddie is!"

Might his character try to cure Sandman, played by Thomas Haden Church? Or perhaps a second villain that hasn't been revealed yet? We'll have to wait and see when the third installment hits theaters on May 4, 2007.

P.S. there was a very large location shoot going on
Sunday in downtown Los Angeles on Flower & Hope Streets
(when most businesses in the area are closed & traffic
is fairly light). A friend at The Biltmore Hotel told me
that a friendly, neighborhood superhero was in the vacinity....

Theresa Russell Joins Spider-Man 3

One-time Black Widow star Theresa Russell has become ensnared in Spidey's web. The actress has joined the cast of Spider-Man 3 for Columbia Pictures, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Russell will play Mrs. Marko, the wife of Flint Marko, aka the Sandman (Thomas Haden Church). Plot details from Alvin Sargent's screenplay are scarce, though the trade says it is known that the villainous couple has a daughter.

Sam Raimi is directing the movie, and he co-wrote the story with his brother, Ivan Raimi. Shooting started this month for a May 4, 2007 release.

Father's day for Cromwell in 'Spidey 3'

James Cromwell is set to walk the beat in Columbia Pictures' "Spider-Man 3" as Captain Stacy, the father of Bryce Dallas Howard's character. Sam Raimi is directing the movie, which is scheduled to roll this month. In the "Amazing Spider-Man" comic books, Stacy dies a heroic death as he saves a child during a battle between Spider-Man and another supervillain. Peter Parker love interest Gwen Stacy (Howard) ends up blaming Spider-Man for her father's death. Cromwell joins returning cast members Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and James Franco as well as Topher Grace, Thomas Haden Church and Theresa Russell. (Borys Kit and Tatiana Siegel)
