Standard Songs Original Artists

There are a lot of songs we hear that are "covers" of songs originally recorded by someone else. This is nothing new...classics of the 50's-60's that were originally big band-era tunes, and covers today from the songs of the 60's, 70's and even 80's...and this is even more true now with all of the artists recording "standards" from the "Great American Songbook".
Quite often I'd like to know who, originally, sang many of these songs and first made themn hits.
Is there a website, book, or other fairly easy reference for this kind of thing?
Thank you...

Thanks, Alias...I enjoy reading your stuff here on the site...and it does indeed look like a great resource. Just an example of what I'm talking about...Reba McIntyre did a version of "Sunday Kind of Love"...and on the air I said something to the effect of...the song made famous by Dinah Washington...and the phones lit up...
