Sad Grandpa has died...

Al Lewis a.k.a. Grandpa Munster has died ...
This is still breaking news...

NEW YORK - Al Lewis, the cigar-chomping patriarch of “The Munsters” whose work as a basketball scout, restaurateur and political candidate never eclipsed his role as Grandpa from the television sitcom, died after years of failing health. He was 95.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10663259/

He will be missed. I grew up watching him on tv's The Munsters.
Im sad.

A great actor in many respects... I loved him in the Munsters too...I suspect TV Land will have a tribute one of these soon days...

His delicious eccentricities will be missed. He was a true character who loved his fans as much as we loved him. I think I'll wear some black and maybe some of my halloween jewelry today in his honor.

Munsters was never one of my favorite shows, but Al Lewis did a wonderful job. RIP Grandpa.

July 2, 1993. My Cousin Vinny was his final role.

Yvonne DeCarlo (Lilly) is still around, though she hasn't made a film appearance since 1995.

Re: Grandpa has died...

There's something I don't get. CNN has his age as 83 and Yahoo reported his age as 95. Anybody know how old he was?

CNN has conflicting reports about his age. In one story it says he was 82, in another story on CNN it says he's 83. And over on Yahoo the stories say he's 95. But this little blurb in one of the CNN articles may shed some light on this:
Quote:
The actor was widely reported to have been born in 1910, but his son Ted Lewis said Saturday that his father was born in 1923.

Re: Grandpa has died...

A bit of trivia...The Munsters was the second sit-com that Al Lewis and Fred Gwynne starred in.
Anyone old enough to remember Officer Francis Muldoon (Gwynne) and Officer Leo Schnauser (Lewis) in "Car 54 Where Are You?"
PS...AliasD might know more about this than I do...but it's not uncommon to hear conflicting ages when it comes to Hollywood types, women more often...sometimes it depends on what birthdate they used when going after different jobs and such...

I used to watch Reruns of "Car 54" on Nick at Nite back in the 80's.

Oh and if Grandpa was bor in in 1923, then that would have made him 83 (or 82 if his birthday hasn't rolled around yet).
