Re: name your favorite Classic Animated movies...

Fantasia will always be my favorite for its sheer innovation. It's sublime blending of animation and classical music was years ahead of its time and lifted animation from light-hearted entertainment to a serious art form. One classic segment follows another, from the lyrical whimsy of the Nutcracker Suite, to the daft silliness of Dance of the Hours, to the profound drama of Night on Bald Mountain/Ave Maria.

Despite a cool initial reception by moviegoers and critics, Fantasia remained the animated film Walt was most proud of. It literally took decades for it to find its audience, but now, more than 60 years after being released, it stands head and shoulders above all Disney films and is the standard all animated films can only aspire to.

Got to be Beauty and the Beast. The animation is stunning--especially the dance and the library. The lyrics are so clever especially Gaston's song. I agree that it was destined to be put on the stage. It looked like it from the beginning.

I'm gonna have to cast my vote for Peter Pan. It had a great mixture of character, comedy, and action.

Re: name your favorite Classic Animated movies...

sleeping beauty and beauty and the beast are my favorites. I loved the good fairies they were so funny to me. I didn't like the storyline about the princess having to be rescued but I must admit I loved that girls' dress.
belle was the second disney heroine with a head on her shoulders. she loved to read and learn and new how to use her head. I also liked how the villain of the piece was a vain man for a change. I know men just like him.

That reminds me. I love the visual opening shot of BATB. It's beautiful too. The deer in that shot are from Bambi. Awhile ago I saw actual stained glass like they had in the film, but I can never find it now. I'd love to have it. I am was soo thrilled when I found a 2 sided advance of BATB with the silhouette of Belle and the Beast dancing against a mauve background on eBay for a reasonable price. Now...to get it framed...

Although I personally do not like Sleeping Beauty, it is visually appealing. And, BATB did reuse some animation from it in order to get completed on time.

I haven't seen Peter Pan since the 1980s. Any idea when that is getting re-released on DVD?

Re: name your favorite Classic Animated movies...

The Fox and the Hound is my fave, I don't know why. I've just always liked it ever since it came out.

I also like Lady & the Tramp, The Aristocats, Jungle Book, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Lion King...

But I do like some non-Disney ones too, such as The Secret of NIMH and Watership Down.

Re: name your favorite Classic Animated movies...

I love Aladdin. It has stunning color, a great story, fun music, and a genie.

I also love Pinocchio. As my name betrays...

Tarzan was the last great 2D animated film. It had great music, and a pretty good story. After that, it all went down hill.
