Its not JUST good because critics say its the godsend of network television- the quality of the writing, the casting, the critical acclaim, the dvd sales and the buzz on this show do not reflect a mediocre show, the reflect a good, even a great show.
It proves the point that critical acclaim isn't the final say because the show is going to be cancelled.

And your examples are all opinions also other than the DVD sales.

First I never said it was the end all be all. Second I did provide evidence a 5-6 share!!!!!!!How is that an opinon????? I do very much dislike repeating myself. This isn't some arbitrary factor that make it better than most of the sitcoms on CBS, NBC, ABC. Are you honestly going to tell me that Yes Dear, According to Jim, Reba, - are better high quality shows. No critical acclaim, less than a 5 share per average, no covers on magazines, no news press if they get cancelled.

Her argument, has no argument it was statement "just because" a critic says its good, doesn't make it the godsend ot television...this proves it?????Where in there was there an argument or body of evidence. This is fundemental argument basics 101, you must provide an argument usually followed by evidence. I saw neither. I called her on it. She laughed it off and thread went another direction.

Mad Hatter you make me feel like blunging my head against a brick wall. You haven't seen the show yet you choose to play devil advocate almost as if Arrested Development sits squarly in the time slot where a far more desirable show should go next season. I can't otherwise fathom why you have such ill respect for critical acclaim, awards and decent rating- people like it, not as many as the studio thinks is profitable but people genuinly like it. Just remember Seinfeld was not well received at all the first few seasons. Sitcoms need time to grow. Rant over.

Eh, whatever.

The writing is tight, the in-jokes are hilariously brilliant, the humor is subtle, and the jokes live on week to week, month to month, and season to season. It's good stuff. Very definitely the best written comedy on TV these days. We've watched our First Season DVD set three times straight since October....it gets more funny with each viewing. We love it.

I'll have no reason to watch FOX ever again. Oh! Except to watch Stacked or Life on a Stick. Total crap.

lol...I don't mean to make you frustrated Shucks. I'm not even really talking about the show anymore. I just don't think that critics really matter because in the end, it's just their opinion. Just because a critic likes Arrested Development, doesn't mean that me, or other people will. If a critic of Disney says that DCA is the greatest thing ever...it doesn't make the park any better. IMO.

Awww so there is the rub! Whilst I would never wanna be a critic myself and I loathe a great deal of them, I do think that many people undervalue critics. These people go through the same film school experiance and most get masters in film history, studying and distilling the best elements of film and television and I listen to what they have to offer...and take it with a grain of salt.

For my money Emmy and Oscars are the important keys to listen to. These are not voted on by critics but by industry people. This is the industry paying omage to itself, awarding praise to friends and collegues. I think it warrents a certain amount of consideration when selecting television and movies for yourself. Obviously when I goto the rental store this weekend, I know far more people enjoyed "Million Dollar Baby" over "Harold and Kumar Went to White Castle" but I still enjoy Harold and Kumar. Same goes with TV, I never wrapped my brain around Everybody Loves Ramond- the jokes never made me laught but Arrested Development does. -SIGHS_

"Arrested" Team In Development Of Film
Posted: Friday April 22nd, 2005 12:39pm
Source: Variety
Author: Garth Franklin

Whilst the fate of Fox's acclaimed comedy series "Arrested Development" remains uncertain, many of those involved are teaming together at Universal Pictures for a comedy reports Variety.

Will Arnett will play a guy who attends his 20th high school reunion and tells his dream girl a pack of lies about being fabulously wealthy and successful back in New York. When she shows up in Gotham, he goes to extraordinary lengths to keep up the ruse.

Brian Grazer and Imagine Entertainment will produce and Joe and Anthony Russo are set to helm an untitled Chuck Martin pitch with Will Arnett set to star. Arnett appears in the show, Martin is one of the show's writers, and the Russo brothers helmed the show's pilot.

I have tried to watch the show.

I place it in the group of so many current movies. Napoleon Dynamite, Sideways, etc. There is no reason for it to be there except for the fact that it's there. No point whatsoever. A story has to have arc, period.

I know other people like it, but obviously not enough people like it. It's all about $$'s and cents.

Though they're still dotting I's and crossing T's on the final documents, I'm told Fox network and 20th Century Fox studio are "99.9 percent of the way there" to reaching an agreement on the new season. According to these highly placed sources, it looks very likely that Arrested Development will be coming back not only for a full season of 22 episodes but actually two full seasons of 22 episodes. How freaking fantastic is that?
Thanks for the good news!!! I hope it's 100% true!!

AD is my favorite show, hands down. Terrible tragedy if it gets cancelled.

Ummm it does have a point---a heightened sense of reality, there your family, my family, everyone's family but magnified and intensified. Its excellent writing, far superior to any other sitcom out there because the audience is treated with a lot of respect. Unlike most sitcoms AD uses the Hitchcock format to promote information from the narrator and asides that character don't know making for brillantly funny stories.

Most multi-camera format sitcoms fall short with the typical will Will and Grace be together? Will Ross and Rachel end up together? Will Raymond's parents continue to annoy the begeez out of me? Typical and retold with little variety. AD has similar themes but so many subplots and characters that you know what we as an audience can invest into the comedy, the story and characters.

See, I watch shows to escape, I don't want to see a magnified version of my own life.

I do see why it's popular, I understand why it's popular, it's just not my cup o' tea. At least I tried to watch a few episodes.
