help w/ POTC: curse of the black pearl, curse?

sorry- I get all twitchy on this one.

They were cursed- if they had all been dead they would have dropped like flies when the curse was lifted- instead they were clearly alive and were going to be arrested. (except for the one that got run through (or shot) and died after the curse was lifted)

The better question is how did they get loose again (namely the main two crew from Barbossa's ship- the short guy and the one with the fake eye)-

I was wondering about what role those two guys will play in POTC2 also. It looks like they may have turned good or something.

I guess everyone know knows what Barbossa's role is in POTCMC - he just shows up to set up the story for POTC:AWE. Tia Dalma said they'd need a captain who has sailed back from World's End to help them find Jack I assume "sailing back from world's end" somehow means coming back from the dead

If you remember correctly, Jack Sparrow also cut his hand with the Aztec gold coin and threw it to Will Turner. Will caught it, cut his own hand, and dropped both into the chest. Now why did Jack cut his hand? Turner blood was all that was needed for the curse to go away!

Every Pirate, person or monkey who takes o piece of the gold out of the chest must repay the chest with the gold and his/her/its own blood.

Bootstrap Bill took gold out of the chest but was tied up at the bottom of the ocean and couldnt repay his own blood. For this reason the blood of his son Will Turner will work the same.

Since Jack took a peice of the gold out of the chest (before fighting Barbosa) he too had to repay his own blood and the gold to break the curse.

then during dinner with elizabeth barbosa explains that cortez cursed the gold because the aztecs were full of greed. it only happened by chance that the pirates fell into the curse because they stole the gold.

Cortes didn't curse the gold. The heathen gods did to punish Cortes for his greed. I watched the first Pirates again last night and that's exactly what Barbossa says.

There is no personal curses, just the one curse. When Jack takes the coin out he just joins the ranks of those who are cursed. The curse can only be broken when all of the pieces are returned with a blood sacrifice from those who took coins.

Of course you'd think having a cursed treasure that makes you unable to die would come in handy and would be exploited so long as pieces are not spent.

When the curse is finally lifted the cursed do not die. The reason Barbosa and some of his crew die is because they were injured right after the curse was lifted while they believed they were still immortal.

Barbosa did die. I think he may have even died before the events of Curse of the Black Pearl. When Sparrow is talking to the guards on the dock at Port Royal they say the Black Pearl is "crewed by the damned" and captained by "a man so vile hell itself spat him back out". I would hardly consider being somewhere once as enough experience.

wow this thread is going around in circles. haha. But I really appreciate all the clarification. I did not notice the monkey taking a coin. I'll have to go watch it again.

and thanks for using spoiler boxes for events happening in Dead Man's Chest. I haven't seen it yet and I'm trying not to be spoiled.

The monkey scene is after all of the credits have rolled. Make sure to stay through the credits for Dead Man's Chest too.
