'National Treasure 2'

'National Treasure' worth doing again
By Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith
LA Daily News
August 3, 2006

Actor Nicolas Cage is on board for the next "National Treasure" movie.
Quote:
The sequel to Disney's 2004 Nicolas Cage hit, "National Treasure," will be before the cameras the first of the year, reports Jon Turteltaub, who directed and co-produced the film with Jerry Bruckheimer.
"We are just about to start preproduction," says the renowned filmmaker responsible for such big-screen hits as "While You Were Sleeping," "Phenomenon" and "The Kid." "We'll have Nic, Justin Bartha, Diane Kruger, Jon Voight and Harvey Keitel ... Everyone's back except anyone who's in jail or died." The first film followed archaeologist Benjamin Franklin Gates (Cage) on a search for a hidden treasure from the 1700s secretly mapped out on the back of the Declaration of Independence. "A lot of people said, 'No one will ever go see this,' " recalls Turteltaub. "But we really thought the world wanted smart action heroes and liked history and puzzles and I guess we were right." Indeed, "National Treasure" went on to earn a worldwide gross of $348 million. He says the sequel will take our intrepid adventurers to "exciting destinations within America as well as around the world. As we were shooting the first one, it kept changing, so I'm scared to commit to anything, but I wouldn't be surprised if Mount Rushmore made an appearance."
MEANWHILE: Turteltaub will be juggling "National Treasure 2" with CBS' new fall drama "Jericho," starring Skeet Ulrich and Gerald McRaney. He's executive-producing the series and directed the first episode, scheduled to premiere Sept. 20.

Re: 'National Treasure 2'

glad to see people like the first one. I loved it, but everybody else I know hated it. The movie is so cheesy it's good, IMHO. The second one should be fun!

Seems kind of pointless to make another since they already FOUND the National Treasure.

Re: 'National Treasure 2'

Sadly...my kids will be so freaking excited I won't be able to live with them!

I thought the original was great...I'll watch it anytime it's on ...which is at least once a week...but I'm geeky like that.

I can say one thing...it has made my kids even more interested in history.

Re: 'National Treasure 2'

There is more than one National Treasure.

I mean, if they can have three "FINAL" Destinations ...

Personally I loved the first one. It wasn't the 'greatest' movie ever, but it was a fun movie.

Re: 'National Treasure 2'

Though we did not expect much from a Nick Cage movie, we were pleasanlty surprised. We really liked it.

Here I am doing my best Nick Cage impression running though the streets of Washington DC with a copy of the Declaration of Indepenance in hand

The kids out in front of the Archives

and with THE DOCCUMENT!

And it was fun for the kids to recognize the actually places they had seen in the movie.

Re: 'National Treasure 2'

I'm excited - there are still too few movies that are enjoyable to parents and kids - and it's actually good! Last night I saw some parents taking their 3 and 4 year old to POTC 2 - all I could think was, yeah, it's disney, but those kids are going to have nightmares.
