Can you imagine the disney classics done by Pixar?

i was watching Little mermaid last night and had this thought....what if the movie (and other disney 2d classics) were exactly the same (voices, script, music) but were made by pixar animation...meaning NOT in 2D...would that make it better or worse? I think all the disney movies would lose their charm...what is it about pixar that does not charm me? I dunno...but even if the movies still were the same and had the same music and maybe even direction and shots...i think the movie would be too realistic...yet not realistic enough...not cartoony enough yet not actual humans...maybe thats the problems...i think pixar animation works for some things...but not whole movies

That is a good question, which I have never thought about. I don't think the movies would have the same magic that the real ones have. Seeing things in 3D creates a real illusion, which destroys the concept of imagination, fantasy, and dreams, which Disney was originally based off of. Good question, and my answer

Disney classics recreated by Pixar? What a divine notion! Let's start with early shorts such as Steamboat Willy and work our way up to modern features like the Lion King. Simba would sound teriffic singing, I Just Can't Wait To Be CG King!

Well Disney animation is Pixar now so this doesn't even work anymore but I get what you mean. They would lose what they had, I think all of the classic sequels are crap and they need to be left alone. Now with the new management at Disney Animation, we can expect some great things. I remember reading somewhere that John Lasseter did want to try to do some original, old fashion animation movies. Disney made the dumbest piont when they said hand animation is dead, at least now they have smart animators and perhaps we can see some good movies again.

I think it's a HORRIBLE Idea. Eisner was floating this idea a while back. Just think of Star Wars with all it's new CGI wizardry... is it any better?

It would be like replacing your kid with one that looked and sounded like yours, but is it really?

Re: Can you imagine the disney classics done by Pixar?

I think it would be a truly awful idea. Sequels have been a bad idea, so remakes would be, too.
I made an interesting observation recently, for what its worth. Being around my nieces and nephews I noticed that when they're pretend playing they want to "be" Disney characters of the past. The little girls want to "be" Cinderella, or Marie, and the little boys want to "be" Prince Phillip, or Scuttle. They never try want to "be" a Pixar character. But they will recite Pixar movie lines in general.
To me, Pixar films, while generally entertaining, lack magic. You don't want to fall into the film and be there with the characters as you do in 2D animation. With CGI you're there simply watching.
In my opinion, closing 2D animation was a huge mistake. While CGI has been very successful, the market is now hugely saturated, and it's not a big deal as it was in the past. It's more of a fad thing, I assume as much as animation was to begin with decades ago. I wish we had the best of both worlds without removing one or the other. I think they're both relevant for different types of stories. CGI good for things like bringing toys to life, but really bad for repeating traditional animation, like when they CGI'd Mickey, Donald, Goofy, etc. That's just BAD.

I never was actually proposing that they do it...or imagining that. I was thinking about if Little Mermaid or Snow White...WHATEVER had be originally done by Pixar...would it be the same success? Thats all.

Thats like wondering, if had had children with someone differant (assuming you have children) how differant would they be. The answer is they would be completely differant people.

Re: Can you imagine the disney classics done by Pixar?

the problem is people don't look real in cgi. they look cartoonie and while the dwarves might look ok, snow white would look like a cartoon character. the magic of a disney movie is that you forget the characters are hand drawn and think of them as real. I have never thought of any of the pixar or dreamworks characters as real. to me it's watching a feature length cartoon. not going to faraway kingdoms.
