25th Anniversary The Fox and the Hound

So I saw this is being released on DVD next Tuesday (the 10th). Took a peek on Amazon to see what kind of extras this would have. I held off on the "Gold Classics" release because I wasn't too impressed with the exras.

This is what the new DVD will have (according to Amazon):

DVD Features:
  • Available Audio Tracks: English (Dolby Digital 5.1), French (Unknown Format), Spanish (Unknown Format)
  • Sneak peek of The Fox and the Hound 2
  • DVD storybook: New Best Friends
  • Sing along song: "The Best of Friends"
  • Two animated bonus shorts
Ummmmm.... not very impresive at all. I know this film was done when Disney's animation department was in a slump, but it's actually my all-time fave of theirs. I remember some old "sneek peek" special of the making of the movie that was hosted by Haley Mills back in like 1980. Why not include that? This movie really had an "all-star" voice cast for its time... Kurt Russell, Mickey Rooney, Sandy Duncan, Pearl Bailey, Jack Albertson, a very young Corey Feldman and of course the infamous Paul Winchell (aka Tigger)... and deserves much more respect than this.

Okay I'm done ranting. I'll still buy it because I only own it on VHS right now.

Ok so it's not as bad as I thought. It looks like they *did* include the Haley Mills thing I posted about too. COOL!

Meh I'll stick with the vhs copy I own. Specially if the DVD promotes that god awful sequel, that horrifies me, more than any other Disney sequel.

I have to admit though the animation for all these (probably crappy) sequels looks better than previous sequels. Loosk more like feature animation. I remember Little Mermaid II looked like a horribly drawn Saturday morning cartoon.... but the sneek peek of III on the new DVD, the animation looks much better. The movie still probably sucks though.

I think lambert is one of the best shorts disney did. you just have to love him. so if i buy this oneare they gonna do a plantinum eddition in another 5 years? I hope not because I only buy one of each movie. last year they did a special eddition of tarzan right before christmas and this summer is was dumbo. I guess this is their way of getting some of the less popular classics out on dvd.

Well, Fox and the Hound was released on DVD back around 5-6 years ago(?) as a "Gold Classic" that was I believe a single disc with naught for crap "extras". So It's nice to see this one get some more attention but for me it's still not enough. I'm just biased because even though it's not one of the more popular Disney "classics", it's always been my fave.

And the animation still sucks too. These days cartoons rely to much on computers. I realize that computers are cheaper, but why can't we just stick to a nice balance.

I'm all for a digitally colored hand drawn cartoon.

(And my god their making another LM???? What is Disney's problem?)

Re: 25th Anniversary The Fox and the Hound

Little Mermaid III looks to be a prequel from what I saw on the sneak peek.
