A Disney insider tells British newspaper The Daily Star Sunday, "Pirates of The Caribbean has proved a huge hit and made a fortune for everyone involved. A huge chunk of that success is on the shoulders of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. Love interest Keira Knightley, who plays Elizabeth Swann is a huge hit. "But producers and directors are now trying to cut costs. Orlando Bloom has suffered as a result. The script for the fourth Pirates movie is being worked on and all the finances are in place but it was decided Bloom's character and a number of minor roles were not necessary to ensure it would be yet another box office smash for Disney."

This is a rumor from a week or two ago that was completely debunked last week. POTC 4 is not even in the script stage yet.

If they do do a 4th one (which it seems like they will...) I would almost like to see them do the same thing that's being done with the X-Men movies (excluding the spin off Wolverine and Magneto, ect) where basically they make more movies in the genre but with different characters.

Maybe keep Jack and some minor characters...but new main characters will keep it fresh. MHO.

Hmm.... why ruin a good thing... stop at 3... Then in 20 some odd years do a trilogy of prequels... it would be brilliant I tell you... Brilliant...

Then sell re-mastered DVD trilogy sets... and a year later sell the originals with the re-mastered with them individually... brilliant!!!

Oh, but this worked for star wars...

I agree. Please use more discretion the next time you post a spoiler. It shouldn't be part of the thread title and it should be concealed in a spoiler box. Not everone wants to know this stuff, regardless of the accuracy of the report.

How ironic that the Disney Company feels it has to cut costs in a franchise that's made them close to a billion dollars already. How much money could we have been talking about, here?

The next thing you know, we'll see the pirates getting their food from ODV carts on the dockside.

Saying that a major character is going to be killed off, is a pretty huge spoiler and pretty obvious.
