![]() | Can someone help me out here? My mind is going completely blank. I just returned from seeing Meet the Robinsons and I was mentally comparing it to recent Disney movies that have come out. The problem is - I couldn't remember any! I loved Cars and Pirates of the Caribbean last summer and I can't remember seeing anything since then. Was the last non-Pixar animated movie that Disney made really Chicken Little?! |

![]() | Re: Recent Disney Movies?!!! Whoa...that is a really long time to go without producing an animated film. Walt Disney Pictures needs to step it up a bit. Wasn't The Wild also kinda recent ? - not that I even saw it! |

![]() | Re: Recent Disney Movies?!!! Neither "Valiant" (Aug 19, 2005) nor "The Wild" (Apr 14, 2006) were Disney movies. Disney was just the Primary Distributor. I did check imdb, and it did list Disney as one of 4 Producers of "The Wild", but, it really wasn't a Disney movie ~ It's really sad that Disney even got involved with these two movies, they both contributed to the string of mediocre Animated movies which Disney became associated with in it's recent history. Disney's association with those two movies goes back to Eisner's poor negotiating skills which lead to a rift between Disney and Pixar, during Eisner's last days. Eisner wanted to "sponsor" some non Pixar animated movies, in order to have more leverage in negotiating a new contract with Pixar. With sponsoring movies like The Wild and Valiant, Eisner was trying to say "Disney doesn't need Pixar". And Eisner was even trying to say the Disney doesn't need to be producing animation, all it needs is to Distribute. Thank goodness Lasseter doesn't feel the same way!

![]() | Re: Recent Disney Movies?!!! Well, The Walt Disney Company owns these film studios: Walt Disney Pictures Touchstone Pictures Hollywood Pictures Miramax Films Buena Vista Home Entertainment Pixar That's not what you're asking for, but it's good to know.

![]() | Re: Recent Disney Movies?!!! NO! Those be dangerous waters. The concept of getting out movies quickly and routinely is why we ended up with mediocrity. Works of creativity take time and should not be rushed. If I remeber correctly, Meet the Robinsons was pushed back about half a year. |

![]() | Re: Recent Disney Movies?!!! Back in the day, Disney had large teams of people working on a specifice title, so they could put a quality film out every year or two. Snow White, Pinocchio, Bambi ect. things really slowed down after Walt's death. Robin Hood, Rescuers, FOx and the Hound. It wasn't until the success of the Little Mermaid that they really focused on riding that creative wave and producing big budget animated films, but after clunkers like Atlantis and Treasure Planet, they scaled back. If it wasn't for PIXAR animation may have completely dropped off of Disney's Slate, but even then PIXAR only produces ONE film at a time, with 2 or 3 years between releases, but this has worked very well as it allows them to refine quality film making. We don't need boat loads of Chicken Littles, and Meet the Robinsons. I can wait for grand event animated features every 3 or 4 years apart if it means that these films will be treasured classics. Think long term guys not instant gratification. |
