France & Japan not feeling "Incredibles" Aug. 05, 2005 Pixar hits forecasts but profits slip
Having informed Wall Street in June that sales of "The Incredibles" weren't up to snuff, Pixar Animation Studios reported second-quarter net income Thursday that was in line with lowered expectations. Revenue and forward guidance, however, were a tad light. Pixar said that it earned $12.7 million on revenue of $26.4 million, about $5 million shy of analyst predictions. In the year-ago quarter, when "Finding Nemo" DVDs were flying off store shelves, the company earned $37.4 million on $66.3 million revenue. In a conference call with analysts, CEO Steve Jobs and chief financial officer Simon Bax explained that while "The Incredibles" DVD has performed fairly well in the United States, it has disappointed in some foreign markets, particularly in France and Japan.
