I want to learn how to bake a loaf of bread without yeast.

I have never baked a loaf of bread. The only kind of "bread" that I have made is the mixes in the box called "quick bread" or the traditional cornbread, which is also a mix.

For dietary reasons, I am elimating yeast, as much as I can, from my diet. That means no bread. For a week, I have really missed the bread, so I thought why not try and make some. I have been scouring the internet for some recipes and I found a few.

Tomorrow I plan on going to the grocery store to get some ingredients. I don't do a lot of baking from scratch. I never have. I rely too much on store bought stuff, and there's no yeast free bread in any of my grocery stores. I figure I will check out all the different types of flour. Perhaps one of them might have a yeast free bread recipe. The one I found sounded quite easy actually.

As with other things in my life, I come to my friends the MiceChatters when I need assistance. You never let me down.

Tomorrow I am going to bake a loaf of bread for the first time. That is, as soon as I buy the ingredients at the store. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Okay, so I'm currently in a period where I can't decide what to do with my life (my family has the curse of changing majors 10 million times before graduation). I'm really creative, so I'm thinking of looking at stuff in creative industries. But I have one paranoia- I have heard of some jerk companies who want to lay claim to any intellectual property their employees produce, even if it's on their own time. I'm a writer, and the idea of someone else owning my stories is abhorent. My brain thinks that the further away I stay from artsy careers, the less chance of my stories getting owned by my potential employers. Is this a valid concern? Do employers in creative industries (or other industries) usually try to do that? Or are those kinds of employers really rare and I'm just being my paranoid OCD self? One of the reasons I'm so paranoid about this was I heard Tim Burton came up with his Nightmare poem while working for Disney, and they owned the rights to it.

I've "dusted off" my dad's Canon A-1, lenses, and filters (UV and polarized), and am wanting to get into film photography. Obviously, this would be in Disneyland, especially in low-light conditions (rides, nighttime shots, etc.). The daytime stuff I can figure out with few problems. I took a photography class in High School (which I loved... and we used fully manual 35mm cameras for, too), so I have a basic working knowledge of how to take pictures the "old-fashioned" way. ;)

Here's a list of my equipment (minus filters, 'cause there's a bunch of 'em. Unless you want to know which ones I have, then I'll happily give you as much info as I can on them):

Canon A-1 SLR camera

Canon 50mm 1:1.4

Canon Zoom 35-105mm 1:3.5 (with Macro)

RMC Tokina 50-200mm 1:3.5-4.5

Canon 28mm 1:2.8

RMC Tokina Doubler

Vivitar Auto Thyristor 5600 flash (attaches via hot shoe on camera)(and no- I won't use this on any rides ;))

The camera itself can take up to ASA 12800 (even though this film no longer exists, or is VERY rare), 1/1000-30 sec shutter speed (and a B setting, which leaves the shutter open as long as you're holding down the shutter button), plus more that I'm sure I'm not aware of.

Those are my specs, and now for the nitty-gritty: what film speed, lens, aperture, and shutter speed should I generally use/start with for shooting free-handed (I have a very steady hand, for what it's worth) inside the rides and outside at night (and to look great, too ;))? I'm sorry if this is a difficult thing to request of you all, but I really could use the guidance. I realize that for lower light, the larger the Aperture, the better. In which case, I guess I'd need to use the 50mm f/1.4 lens. But what about the rest?

I've found (via MonsterGoBoo's FILM?! thread in the DL forums) this ISO 1600 film that seems well rated, but I've also found some ISO 3200 film (which appears to be only B&W... drat). Which would be better suited for what I'm after? I want color photos, so I suppose the 1600 would be the way to go. Black and White is nice sometimes, though.

Anyways, thanks for your help! It IS appreciated! :)

I have to admit...I have a few friends who send these out and they don't even get taken from the envelope. I toss them in the trash! Their family photo....I hang that up. (Normally a photo of them on a ski trip, a trip to Hawaii, a trip to Europe, etc.)

Anyone else find these just too much to handle? How perfect their kids are? How well their jobs are going? How many vacations they took last year? How fabulously they are doing? I found this online and thought it was funny. It's sort of long, so, I will just post a link if anyone wants to read it. (It's someone's blog.)
The Wonderful World Of Nothing Worthwhile: The Annual Christmas Letter

You will never see me sending out one of these letters. Maybe because I don't have trips to Europe to report, maybe because hubby wasn't made partner this year, maybe because I just don't think people care that much about everything we did all year AND if they did, we'd talk between Christmas holidays and they'd already know all of this information!!! :p

We all have them. I have several, but some bother me more than others. Off the top of my head, the thing that makes me absolutely cringe is when people are singing along to a song and they are totally off key or don't know the words. The combination of the two can literally send me into a tizzy.

Another is typos. Especially when it's in a magazine or on a menu at a restaurant. I don't like not knowing how to spell something, so if I don't know I look it up. I wish other people did the same. I understand that sometimes it's just a mistake, but more often than not it's just laziness.

I have a bunch of others but those 2 stand out in my head. Now everybody please join in so I don't sound like an insensitive freak.

I was going to title this thread, To Facebook, or not to Facebook. I decided on "Help me decide about Facebook" instead. I am actually sitting on the fence as to whether or not I should have a Facebook account or not.

It does seem that a great majority of people have accounts on Facebook. I notice the word Facebook a lot as I visit websites on the internet. I also understand that some people do spend a lot of time on that site. It is the time element that concerns me the most.

On one hand I would love to be able to connect with family members and friends and be able to chat and share pictures. On the other hand, do I really want to begin an account that may take up more of my time than I am willing to devote to it? I have many other things that I spend my time doing and I don't want that to change.

So honestly, if you have a Facebook account tell me why you like it. If you don't tell me why as well. I would also like to know on the average how much time do you spend on the site?

So, help me decide about Facebook.

You have all been great helping me to decide about Facebook. I do appreciate it. I decided to take the plunge. I am presently figuring out the best way to customize the experience for myself.

Feel free to continue to stop by in this thread and leave me your tips, and ideas, and if anyone would like to friend me, send me a PM. I'd love to have some MiceChat friends on Facebook. My husband says it will take over my life. Hopefully, I have this all under control. The newness takes time, but I am sure I will settle into a comfortable routine, just as I have with MiceChat.
