In another thread I raised the possibility of DL selling the resort to an outside company and running it as a franchise like the foreign parks.

What would this mean to you? Would it change your view of DL? Would you see DL as "lost forever?" Would you keep your pass? How would it affect DL's ops? More attractions? Fewer?

There's a strong case either way. Tokyo is seen as the gold standard w/ its high level of theming and non-reliance on movie-based attractions. OTOH, Paris is closer to what we have in CA: a main park that has lots of style but little substance and a lackluster second gate.

What do you think?

Each Christmas (for years now) the Disney Studio (in Burbank) opens its grounds to the public, specifically for shopping and lunch. They have access to the buena vista entrance, the company store (both sides), one cafeteria, and a small portion of the grounds.

OK, does anyone know what day the studio will be open this December? Usually it's an early Saturday in the month. Or will Disney not do it this year due to the public showings of Frog?

Thanks.

Good Morning,

I'm going to Disneyland with my girlfriend tonight after 6 and was wondering where you think the best places are in Disneyland or California Adventure to take a Christmas Card picture. We usually take the ones in front of the castle and the tree on main street but I want something different and not seen before. Do they have photographers in front or near the haunted mansion?

Thanks!!!

Question Why are some Disney Fans so Greedy?

Most...

So unless you have lived under a rock these past couple of months than you know Disney has had more crowds than the last couple of years.

Most Disneyland fans blame this on how the AP program works now, along with the birthday promotion. I know no one likes lines (especially me) so most Disneyland fans go off and start saying we should make the AP prices higher or take the system away all together.

Now I know I'm entering an argument I can't win because people seem to care more about what makes trips good for them but here I go.

So if Disney got ride of AP's how many of us Disneyland fans that live 2 hours of less from the park (and even farther) would not go more than twice a year???

I think it would be a large number of fans. The reason an AP is good for me is because it drops the price of going by a lot, yet I'm still paying for gas and food. Making it still a good amount of money every time I go.

So even with the AP I spend 50 dollars a trip, most times. So if I went with no AP it could cost up to 90 to 100 dollars, and that would make me go way less. My friends also would not go at all since were young and don;t have that much cash just to waste.

So for all you AP haters and people that have more money than others and just want less crowds, you want Disney to act like more of a business even through you know that if they make a bigger profit than before they will not improve the park more (the last three years they add something new at least every 3 months, even without making that much money)

So stop hating on Apers who love the part but don't have 1000 dollars to spend on Disneyland a year and still want to go every month to get to see the park year round.

So our trip is for Dec. 26th-Jan.4th. I called today thinking there would be no way we could still get a breakfast reservation anywhere. I was floored that we got in to the Plaza Inn on Dec. 27th! We usually spend the week between Christmas and New Years in WDW and have a VERY hard time getting dining/breakfast reservations no matter how early we begin! Is this the norm at Disneyland or do you think not as many people are traveling?

P.S. We also got dining reservations at Blue Bayou!

Question Why Will You Be Standing In Line To Watch Captain EO?

I mean I just caught the show on YouTube, not suppose to be there {shaking finger at person who posted it, back at me for viewing it} and I will not be one of those peeps who want to stand in line to catch it again on the big screen in 3D. This has nothing to do with Mr. Jackson as I have no opinion on him, love a few of his songs but I was just never crazy about Captain EO.

But I would love to know why so many here on MiceChat and around the world, if Captain EO is put in international DL's, will be willing to wait in long lines opening week to watch Captain EO again.

Everyone share their love for Captain EO and why you will stand in line waiting, waiting, waiting for the next show time, cause I know many of you will be waiting forever and a day to get in that theatre!

The "Show" at Disney theme parks is the essence of what creates the magic, for me at least. It's what allows you to be transported to worlds that seem composed of both fantasy and reality, whimsy and fact, and still be believable. It's what sets Disney apart, and when WDI is firing on all cyliders, no one can match the type of Show quality they can produce. To create places and experiences, whether they are completely historically based or made of pure imagination or anything in between, where every detail seems to fix exactly, nothing seems out of place or contradictory, that to me should be one of WDI's highest goals. From the little research I've done on the subject, there used to be a group within WDI (I believe) whose sole purpose what to defend and advocate for the Show. Here's a quote from around 2006 about the group:

Quote:

They held the right to veto any plan that didn't fit in a park in acceptable terms of quality, theme, etc. So, essentially from what I know, SQS was responsible for each park maintaining it's identity and theme.

Based on that quote, it seems like SQS was a watchdog group within the company that did what many fans on this site and others do: examine even the most minute details in a park to ensure that the maintain quality standards, get proper maintenance, and fit in well with all the other elements of an attraction/land/park. I seem to also remember reading somewhere that a version of this group works on TDR, and that they are part of the reason that Tokyo is so well maintained, the quality standards are so high, and why almost every attraction is themed to perfectly fit in.

So my questions are, for anyone who might know, does this group still exist? Does it have any power or sway? If it's gone, how long ago was it gotten rid of, and by who? Has any movement been made to bring it back?

With marketing and globalization schemes like Disney Parks and One Disney threatening the unique identities of the parks; with items of questionable quality coming out of DCA's Pier makeover while other DCA 1.0 elements remain as glaring points of bad show (concrete retaining walls still surrounding a "natural" bay, with otherwise realistic rocks actually "growing" out of one); with the focus on marketable properties replacing any concern over whether an attraction actually fits in an existing land, I feel Show Quality Services is still desperately needed.

What an honor for Toy Story Midway Mania! :D Good news in the OC Register concerning the international Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) having awarded a 2009 top new ride recognition award to Disney's Toy Story Midway Mania (for both the California and Florida versions). A few other attractions in other parks received the same honor, most noticeably USF's "Disaster".

Over time, Disney has received nine (9) attraction awards from TEA, and
twenty-five (25) for non-attraction categories. Jesse Shell of Shell Games is credited as the primary designer of Toy Story Midway Mania that was created in collaboration with WDI. Disney's Cyberspace Mountain is another Collaborative project designed by Jesse Shell and Company and WDI.
