Mike Scoscia Wins AL Manager of the Year Award

I just heard that the American League Manager of the year award was given to Mike Scoscia.

I thought I would start a thread about it because while other managers may have been more deserving, managing a team that had the success the Angels did with a sub par pitciing staff, injuries, and the Nick Adenhart tragedy deserves special recognition.

The Angels may not have gone all the way but considering the season that they had, with all of their trials and tribulations, Scioscia deserves every bit of this award.

Congratulations to Mike Scoscia and the Angels!

For the first time, ever, my alma mater Cal State Fullerton Titans have just beaten the UCLA Bruins, 68-65 in double OT, at Pauley Pavillion.

Do you all think Jimmie Johnson has taken the crown from Jeff Gordon as the new face of Nascar? Every time someone mentions nascar they often think of Jeff Gordon, or some people do. But do you think that Jimmie Johnson has stolen the crown from him? I think so, nobody can deny that 4 straight championships is impressive, but don't forget what Gordon has done in his carrer, and what he has done this season, most likely to end up third in the points. Now onto Johnson 4 titles in 8 seasons, nobody in the history of the sport has ever accomplished the feat, I'm not making a statement that he's the greatest ever,I still think Petty is, but he's up there. So what do you all think, is Jeff Gordon still the man to be fearful of, or has Jimmie Johnson taken controll of the nascar world?

It's always sad to see a baseball season finally coming to an end, especially the way the 2009 season did.;)

So it's time to start up the old "hot stove", and talk about the happenings of the off-season, which is actually underway already.

Starting off in SoCal, we have a soap opera with the Dodgers, with the team's owner firing the CEO (his wife, they are getting a divorce).

The Angels have seven players approaching free agency, including the ace of the pitching staff, John Lackey, along with Vlad Guerrero and Chone Figgins to name just a few.

What about your team? Just because it's five months until next season doesn't mean we can't talk a good game here about the grand old game.

ESPN's 30 for 30

Has anybody else been watching these amazing documentaries that ESPN is doing for their 30th anniversary?

Basically, they are having 30 filmmakers do a documentary about sports or a major sports event.

Tonight is the premiere of the documenatry about Len Bias.

I watched the one about the USFL last week and it was amazingly good. Stupid Donald Trump. :(

Today is Red Sox Liberation Day

Please forgive me, you Red Sox haters, but today is a day in history which cannot pass without notice.

For it was five years ago today that the Boston Red Sox put to rest the famous "Curse of the Bambino" and won their first World Series in nearly 90 years.

It is still an event which will live in my mind forever, starting with the miracle comback against the Yankees.

Even more so, as I look back at it, I will always think of my childhood friends, who loved the Sox as much as I did, and who died long before that magical day; and never got to enjoy that singular moment.

(I now step down from my soapbox and return the discussion to other more pertinent things).

The Clippers curse strikes again (#1 pick out 6 weeks)

Just when you thought things were looking up for the worst sports franchise in the NBA (maybe in ALL of sports), the Clippers #1 pick is out for 6 weeks with a broken knee cap.

I was actually really looking forward to watching him play and I really thought this was one of the #1 picks that the Clippers actually got right.

Hope he get's better and it doesn't effect his career too much.

Amgen Tour of, Like, California, You Know?

Like Tour de France, with the French accent and all, but with a Valley accent instead. Totally!

For the SoCal Cycle enthusiast, plan your day around Stage 6, on Friday, 5/20/2010 Pasadena to Big Bear Lake. They're trying to put some actual mountains into this tour, and this is the stage with them. I can see them heading up to Mt Wilson, down into Antelope Valley / Mojave Desert, then back up to Wrightwood the back way, down the east way, then up for a finish in Big Bear.
For in-town folks, Stage 7 the next day is planned to be a time trial. maybe they can go up and down the road to Griffith Observatory.
For East Ventura County, Final Stage 8 on Sunday will be a circuit course, similar to the end of the Tour de France's rolling up and down Champs Elysee a few times.

No courses are set yet. But the days are.
