Exclamation Re: Preview of the Pixar Play Parade!!!

As a big fan of Block Party Bash, I'm a bit mixed on the Play Parade.

BPB was always fun and energetic to get into, but it seems Play Parade is playing the "tame" card, which I'm aware many people here like that change.

And to me, it just seems strange to see some recycled things in there, like some formerly-BPB-exclusive walk around characters as well as the same puppets used for the Finding Nemo Musical.
(guess that's the closest i'll ever get to that finding nemo musical...)

Then there's that water idea.

Thankfully, it's switched to 'bubble' mode on colder seasons, but taking a card from Hong Kong Disneyland's deck?

When I was at HKDL, I needed a parade like that!

As for DCA, I never really felt the need of such a parade, and we already have some wet play areas and attractions to go on here.

Overall, it really does look nice, but it's not a replacement for BPB for me.
For some many others here, PPP (should we call it 'P3'?) is instantly welcomed because a) It's not loud b) It's not highly energetic c) It's an actual parade d) It doesn't look cheap, while those were what made me like BPB.
(minus the cheap part, but granted, bpb wasn't cheap for me, and overall it was all about the performers, the fun, the interaction, and basically getting you into the fun that made that parade and it didn't require multiple detailed floats to pull that off)

Still like what I see, and still have to watch it for myself on my birthday trip later this month and reserve judgment until then.

BTW: what is UP with the costumes for the 'humans'?
Some were OK with the Nemo unit appropriately matching (yet could have done a bit more) and the Incredibles unit channeling that BPB vibe.
But others seemed a bit... I don't know, it just kinda throws off some things.
Monsters unit looked like they dressed up in the dark, and Bugs unit seems to think that slapping on those cheap fairy/butterfly/etc wings you see all the time on Halloween on everyone was appropriate, even for guys.

And what's up with all the plastic hair? Even on the Ratatouille unit.

New character additions, like Roz or the stretch-Heimlich, are welcomed, even stilts, but it's just some of those outfits I'm a bit turned off about...

Caught the parade today. What a lot of fun. Loved the addition of George from MONSTERS INC. and Slim from A BUG'S LIFE.

The concept drawings showed Syndrome riding the Omnidroid float. Does anyone know what happened? Is he going to be added in later?

Looks like they put some thought into it unlike the 50th anniversary parade, now the parade of a million nightmares (I mean dreams).

They're not really an addition as they were both previously in BPB, and present at the first soft open. Lightning, however, was very nice to see! The spinny car wash dresses the girls had with him were too funny.

Re: Preview of the Pixar Play Parade!!!

I'm a long time lurker coming out of hiding. I just wanted to share my opinions about the parade. One thing that I will always remember as a kid is seeing all my favorite characters come to life in the parades. Back then it was a parade for the characters, and lately I feel like it's been about a parade with some characters. After seeing the preview today, I felt like I was a kid again seeing all my favorite characters being celebrated in a parade for them! I loved it. Although I did get quite wet (but I am wondering if that has anything to do with the fact that there wasn't a lot of people around me, so I was the target) I didn't find it as annoying as some of you have. I think maybe the overall feeling of the parade put me in great spirits that I was caught up in the feeling of being a kid again. And of course my favorite part was the Ratatouille float!! Finally some Ratatouille action in the park!!
I posted a video on you tube too, so if anyone wants to see another video from a different view ( I was over by the wharf) check it out. For some reason youtube made the first 30 secs pretty fuzzy (not like that on my version), so if you can tolerate that you'll have another view!

huh...while you may not have liked Walt Disney's Parade of Dreams (which I'm guessing you're referring to)...both those productions, including Remember, were in development for nearly three years before the big 50th celebration.
Trust me, "thought" was put into those productions...

Based on the pictures, I'm pretty sure there's a few recycled Eureka! things in there, too. Can any parades CM verify?

Re: Preview of the Pixar Play Parade!!!

I think it looks neat. I am looking forward to seeing it. Is that the same Ratatulli (sp) float they had last year for the pre-parade at DL? Did they play that same song? I actually liked that song

Re: Preview of the Pixar Play Parade!!!

I am soooo excited to see the parade. Thanks for the pix fishy! My son's a HUGE Cars fan, so I hope they resolve that part of the parade pronto! I know that he will want to wear his Cars shirts when we see it.

Had the same initial reaction, it has a great sense of brimming with characters and featuring some terrifically-detailed floats and fun effects. Can't wait to see it again.

Welcome to MiceChat Top Chef Remy & don't forget to watch Bravo tonight!

Thanks for the pic ALIASd, I'm sure you're right, somewhere along the line SOMEONE is gonna pull the old slip and fall maneuver...

They look like they've got it pretty well handled though. =)

THANKS AGAIN! I'm off for a stroll at the park!

Re: Preview of the Pixar Play Parade!!!

I saw the preview Tuesday afternoon and in mine Lightning McQueen started the parade and Mater ended it. I love the Cars characters, but the ending didn't have any sort of "grand finale" feel.

The water did get a little annoying, I was with three young children and their moms and two of the three didn't like being sprayed. I noticed several other children not enjoying it either. I wear glasses so at 4 different times I had to take them off and dry them with my t-shirt. Unfortunately when water is coming directly at your face your instinct is to close your eyes or look down, which means half the time you aren't watching the parade because you can tell it's a "sprayer".

Hopefully I don't sound too negative...it seems like it has a lot of potential, I enjoyed all the characters, the floats, and the colorful, energetic feel. Maybe I'll just stand a little farther back next time!
