Monorail Man recently did some "housekeeping" by getting rid of some of the "abandoned" clubs. If there had been no posts at all in them in the last 3 months I think it was, they disappeared, cleaning up the database a bit.
Quality over quantity has been a phrase used here at MiceChat for a very long time. I remember hearing it the first time when the "Raise Your Post Count Threads" first appeared.
I have been here a long time, and I admit that some of my posting is indeed frivolous. However, I have a great time here. I admire the fact that Dusty, and the other people that run MiceChat allow us to be ourselves. If that means posts with one word, or long thoughtful meaningful ones, we are still welcome here. Sometimes a one word post, in the right place can be of more quality than a lengthy one.
Not really. Our usernames make us individual and give us personality, as do our signatures. And I know I listen more to usernames than post count in terms of credibility.
Quality over quantity.
To some extent thats true. But I also agree with Barbara, that a good part of my personal "connection" to people and the friendships I've formed here, have mostly been with "fluff" posting in the fun and games lounge and clubs. Has all that insignificant fluff added to my post count? Oh heck yeah. But its also allowed me to really get to know a lot of people, on a personal level, to have fun and share some laughs, and to make friends along the way! And that to me is worth even more than the quality of my postings!
There is a simple solution that meets both desires...
Let people post as they want in the lounges/clubs
Let people ignore forums from their new post searches
And simply don't count those forums in the post count
The site already does all of that except the last point. It's a simple configuration change.
That way the chatty clubs can be on their merry selves... and the park focused people can have ignorant bliss of what goes on over there.
We did that in the past on other sites when people just started posting to boost post counts in our offtopic lounge. Just take away the reward and the bad behavior stopped. Not that it's bad behavior here on MC - but the same tweak can be used to isolate the different styles.
This is another one of those topics that seems to be rehashed from time to time here at MiceChat. I do sometimes wonder what my Post count would be if it was monitored by some system that only counted "quality posts".
I joined MiceChat back in 2005 because I was gathering information for my very first Disneyland trip. I have stayed around, because MiceChat has given me valuable Disney infornmation over the years, but mostly because of the friendships that I have made.
