    Re: Disappearing thread?

    30 cents a day? Barry... I'm no math expert darling, but it's actually about 3 1/2 cents a day ($12/yr=$1/mo / 30 days = $0.03333...

It has nothing to do with money, it has to do with appropriateness of the subject matter, and the fact that debates can get ugly quick, so we only allow debating in the gold forums.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

    Re: Disappearing thread?

I can be loathe to spend money to join online communities, but I looked at it this way: I spend a lot of time here and it only cost the equivalent of oh, two fast food lunches or three fancy coffees or one time at the movies...for a WHOLE YEAR. Seems like a deal to me.

Besides, I agree with the debate being moved to a place where only members can read it, that way anyone crossing the internet doesn't happen upon any potential ugliness.

I know that Micechat isn't a moneymaking venture, nor is anyone getting rich off it. I said financial "interest," Fishy said "gain." My point was that a moderator who was posting provocative statements in the thread, claimed to have moved the thread. Seemed conflict-of-interesty to me.

That's why you went to USC...and I had to settle for a state education in Fullerton...forgot to move that decimal point over in my addled brain!

And a good point about the debate forums as well. And I'm normally good with numbers in my head...

I understand where you're going with this, I really do. And I know I can't convince you that we don't do it on purpose. All I can do is say that we as moderators still have the freedom to be posters, and a couple of us (esp. SoulQ and myself) are notorious for jumping into controversial discussions.

Regardless, prior to the creation of a debate forum in Gold, debates in general (about anything of political or "moral" nature) were discouraged and usually litterboxed. So the thread, having fallen into the typical "gay debate" would have moved anyway, it's just that now it gets moved to a forum where continuation is actually encouraged.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

    Re: Disappearing thread?

    ^ No prob.

It all boils down to I like my free discourse free. I'm happy to pay a little for extras if I want them, I'm more happy to donate to support the site. I don't care to pay extra for a perceived higher level of discourse. From the e-mail notification I received before the thread went private, I can state that the conversation hadn't exactly moved in a more sophisticated direction.

    Thanks.

    Huh.
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

It's also good chime in here, that we generally talk about moving the thread before it's moved by a mod. The mod and admin crew aren't big fans of knee-jerk reactions.
