I had an ear appointment a few weeks ago to check up on my ear, and I got a hearing test ordered. When I was little I had a lot of surgeries on my ears because I had problems and ear infections. I got tubes in a lot, and they're supposed I naturally close when I get older, and one ear did naturally close but one didn't. So I had a skin graft surgery to close it, but it didn't take. The next surgery didn't take, either. With an open ear, I have to wear an earplug in the shower and on Splash Mountain because water will infect it. Somehow I still got an infection, though, and the drops they gave me cause excruciating pain. They suspected it was just discomfort due to my ear being open, but then the doctor saw that it made me scream and it really hurt, so in my third skin graft, he had to cut my ear open from the back and go in and saw there was a tumor, or a cyst, (like excess skin) growing on my hearing bone, and it wasn't an ear infection I had, it was just the tumor irritating me and reacting to the medication.
So that surgery was really long, and hectic. My mom had just given birth so my dad took me, and my dad had never been to the doctor with me before. I woke up with a cup-like thing strapped to y ear across my head because of the stitching sewing my ear back on. My dad wasn't paying attention to what they told him and when I got back to my mom she was panicked because she didn't know anything, all my dad remembered was that they took out a tumor. When she got out of the hospital it was done being tested and my doctor explained everything the happened, and said the tumor was benign. Now the skin graft still didnt take, though, so I'll have to have that surgery again, and the tumor has also grown back, so if it irritates me again when it grows, or my ear gets infected, I'll need to have my ear opened and have the tumor scraped.
The tumor combined with all the surgeries has reduced my hearing in that ear. Before it was just reduced and now it's gotten to the point where if I cover the good ear I can't hear anything, so I have a hearing test tomorrow and my doctor can figure out from there what to do.
