I do recall the many Summers where the last days of August were spent getting ready to reenter classes. Chicago kids don't go back until September, so most kids are still hanging out, and just enjoying the freedom of no classes, no getting up early, and no studying anything at all.

When I was a kid, all our days were spent outside in the glorious sunshine playing baseball, bike riding, or roller skating down the sidewalk. Today's kids are more than liking fighting various demons on X-Box, or using apps on their iPod. What a different world it is today.
School has always been part of my world as soon as I left the desk I stepped infront of the classroom and will be there at least another 20 years. Good thing I love it!

I believe teaching is a calling. You must have a passion for it. Why else would you choose to spend so many hours with so many children, who most likely would rather be somewhere else, doing something different?

It has cooled off nicely here in Chicago. I spent the better part of my morning doing yardwork. It was perfect. Not hot, or cold. Not sunny. No wind, and best of all, no flying and/or biting insects. I didn't get everything done, but I worked until I got tired, and I got a lot done.

That's terrible, Rex. No fun at all.

One of my friends (yes; I actually DO have friends......) A/C quit yesterday. It was the capacitor on the indoor blower motor. I happened to have one in my vast collection of mostly useless stuff, so it was an easy fix.

And most of all, no cost!!

    It was 104º here today.

    1) You mock me. But really you should be making me a sandwich. I might just waste away and then you will feel bad..... you know... probably....

    2) My mom's a/c is broken and she was saying she wished she knew someone who could fix it. Of course I thought of you....cuz I'm pretty sure there is nothing you can't do.

    Hi Rex!

Our a/c is working; you are welcome over here to watch the closing ceremonies of the Olympics. I hear it in the other room... sounds kinda weird....

For the first time in a long time my daughter won't be going to classes this fall. She's in the process of looking for a job. Only she can't get a job teaching yet because she has to do her "5th year" and can't do that until next fall... and its going to cost her another $10,000 to get her credential in the state of CA.... and she can't find a job in the mean time because now that she has a BA she's "over qualified" for a lot of stuff and she can't even get a part time job because with the BA they figure she won't stay around but will look for something better....

    *sigh* She's getting pretty depressed....

    On a different note....

Had a wonderful thunder storm this afternoon. And I... saw none of it since I was at work. Heard some of the thunder and saw some of the after math of the rain but... didn't get to enjoy it myself.

    Bummer.

Ugh Jody. I am sorry for your daughter. So stupid! Has she tried a private school? You don't need a credential for most... Or maybe tutoring? They make bucks.

I'm beginning to believe that our college system is one of the more evil things in modern society.

Like a lot of things, it started out well, but soon enough, power and greed took over, and we now have a system that's very expensive but doesn't always work for the best interest of the people who have to deal with it.

    Ok, rant over.....
