"Feels like lightning running through my veins"

Been listening to David Gray this afternoon. This guy is just a ridiculously good songwriter.

Another piece of Brian Wilson brilliance.

    Great choice Barry.

I'll post another piece of Brian's brilliance. When I first started listening to the Beach Boys a friends older brother lent me his copy of 20/20 and this track really stood out to me.

Aah, another of the tracks that was supposed to be part of the infamous Smile album that wasn't made til 37 yeas later. Most people who know I have an even remote connection to the Beach Boys always ask me about the Smile project, which has had a cult following that's rather unbelievable.

I am fairly certain that Brian was pretty well into his drug experimentation by then...it being 1967 and all..

Re: The Music Lovers "One Song Per Day" Thread

When I was six years old, my mother remarried. (I never knew my biological Dad). So needless to say, my new Stepdad (real Dad) and I had some bonding to do. He took me for car rides, where we'd talk and listen to Top 40 radio. In 62, Vince Guaraldi released this classic. When it came on the radio, my Dad told me to listen for all the various parts and how they all came together.

I have loved Vince Guaraldi, Peanuts specials and all, ever since. RIP, Dad.

I wouldn't have asked. That project is what it is and came out when the time was right, and it was awesome.

I even read this hypotherical, fan-fic-esque account of what would have happened had Smile been released when intended. It posited the Beach Boys would have surpassed the Beatles in popularity and become a much greater and more respected force in musical innovation.

As it was, both Lennon and McCartney stated that Pet Sounds pushed them to make Sgt, Pepper...and McCartney claims that "God Only Knows" is his favorite song.

Very true, and I respect the Beach Boys (who am I kidding, Brian Wilson) immensely. Pet Sounds is in my top 5 albums.

One of the grooviest and most killer songs ever composed. Awesome guitar riff, flawless structure and pacing, and some little surprises along the way. One of the best songs from one of the greatest bands around today.

Don't forget Carl. He was the heart and soul of the band for a long time RIP.

I respect them all, but I may never forgive the others for how they treated Brian, the true brains of the group. They stifled his ability to write the kinds of songs he wanted.

Was watching something online the other day about The Boys and yeah, I miss Carl being there.

Unrelated, but not really, I stumbled into a George Harrison mood today.
