My mom was very weak. She could not care for herself, She wasn't strong enough to even walk on her own. When I would visit her, she'd always ask when she was going home. I'd tell her she'd have to get strong enough first to be able to walk by herself. She seemed to accept that. My mom was cared for very well in the nursing home. We had to put her on public aid to pay for her care. I felt very grateful at the time that that was the way it was handled. None of her children were burdened with her bills.

The important thing was that my mom was safe. SHe got good care. She always knew me and my sister when we visited her despite the Alzheimer's diagnosis.

My mom was 82 years old when she passed away, so she lived a long life. She was a good mother to her children.

It's hard to watch someone you know slip away from you. My mom wouldn't let us care for her when she was at home, she would fight with her daughters. So she had to get pretty bad, before she finally agreed to medical treatment.

I don't envy anyone going through the same type of situation that I went through with my mom.

My dad can't talk and sometimes forgets names of items or just can't say them He is 63 in February.

my mom's memory is such that it makes it VERY hard to have conversations with her or tell her things, cause this is all i hear " i don't remember you telling me that" and i can tell her something the next ask her again about it and i get the " no i don't remember" ..it's becoming VERY frustrating..

Hmm..sounds like selective memory to me....I have that issue with someone. This person LOVEs to make me feel like I"m the crazy one...when I'm not.

ahh..sounds like my dad and my mom has to deal with that. For instance, we were preparing for a big b-day party for my sis...preparing the house for guests, decorations etc. He kept asking overand over..."why are we decorating..." or something to that effect...

That sounds like mind games to me...I had something like that played on me alot growing up...at one point I really thought I was dreaming instances when I swore I told her something.

Have patience with your elderly parents. What you think is just bad temper, or stubbornness, may indeed be a memory problem.

My mom was the same way for years. It's difficult dealing with some elderly people. I hope as I get older that my family has patience with me.
