I go to a top 50 liberal arts school, so...tell him to relax a bit. There is nothing you take in high school that they don't make you take again in college (except for the French class, potentially). Actually my school encourages you to explore your options during your first 2 years of college - we don't choose our majors until 2nd semester of Junior year.
at my school, you pick your major when you apply (though you can choose undeclared), but you can pretty much switch whenever your want -- perhaps excluding the heavily impacted majors like psych and business economics. but yeah, high school classes don't matter. I mean when you sign up for a class, it doesn't say "Requisite: high school physics." lol. the only exception I can think of is something like film school, where the application process is more involved than common app, etc.

I transferred from a JC so all my high school stuff was especially irrelevant. we're more or less locked into the majors we applied for, but even then I know a couple people who switched during their third year -- or else added a second major on top of their current one. college classes, majors, etc. are so mutable that there's really no point in worrying about them during high school. all that matters then is getting the GPA and SAT scores to get you where you want to go, and understanding the foundational material enough that you don't flounder when you get there.

Thank you Sara and good evening everyone!

Another person and I used to talk about how we would still be in college if we could and try to get Bachelor's degrees in everything.

    Catch up summary:

    1. Sara I found your FB. You aren't as hidden as you think!
    2. AP classes in high school are WAY easier than college classes. So happy I didn't have to take any college math because I finished calculus my junior year of high school. We had a choice of taking the AP tests for AP credit, or paying for "dual credit". I chose dual credit, and all of those classes transferred and counted in college toward graduation. I did two years at community college (since it was free on scholarship), then transferred to pharmacy school and graduated with a doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) at age 23. I think I did ok!
    3. Barry - Stop it! Cheer up! We all love you in here and want to see you happy!
    4. Sara - I'm sorry about your dad. My mom is a breast cancer survivor, my dad has prostate cancer. If it's slow growing, it's nothing to worry about. Something like 80-90% of men will either have BPH or prostate cancer by the time they're over 60-70. Plus hey, it's champagne Thursday!!
    5. I want a pillow pet from Disneyland!! I've had my eye on the Cheshire Cat one for a while.
    6. Yay Sara that rose means you made it to the next round on the Bachelor!

Re: RCMC #127: One lumps or two?

When I went to college, If I had certain level classes in HS, I could skip some classes. For example, AP or honors English meant I could take a special 3 credit English Class, insted of 2 regular 3 credit English Classes. The problem was I still needed say 100 credits to graduate which meant instead of an extra english class I needed a 3 credit elective.

My degree was rather specialized, and if I switched to something similiar it would take another 1.5 years of school. Too many major specific classes.
