Re: RCMC #129 - We are on a mission!

I'm a construction electrician now, and work for an electrical contractor. I can do just about any facet of electrical work, but my speciality is controls. There are VERY few actual control electricians around here.

One of the job offers is from a place in Reno (about an hour from home), they made me an offer because out of about 15 guys they've had working on their plant, so far I'm the only one who understands their exceedingly complicated emergency generator controls.

The other is at a plant that I work at a lot. Again, tons of controls, but I've done the vast majority of work on that plant for the past several years. This plant is about 20 minutes from home.

The pay and bennies is about the same as I'm making now, so it's not an easy call to make.

Actually the benefits are a pretty good reason in my book. We have no medical coverage now, and I'm pretty much freaking out over it since hubby takes several different meds that we will now have to pay out of pocket for. So... yeah, if you have a job with bennies it is something to consider. Now days not many jobs offer good ones, or if they have them you have to pay a good part of them yourself. We were spoiled.... the job hubby had we had full bennies and the company paid 100% of them. Yeah... that won't be happening again...

Yep, been on the work side of that many times.

The good guys realize that homeowners are not made of money, and they'll do the best they can with the budget they have.

My husband used to work 15 minutes from home, and then the company moved, not just once but twice. Each time further away. He would love to be close to his job again.

That's good Rob. You can weigh all the different pluses and negatives in that amount of time.

    I'm leaning that way.

One good thing about the one farther away is it's almost all inside work. The close one is about half and half.

The older I get, the less tolerant of extreme weather I am.

But less driving time makes quite a difference too.

Well, that is certainly something to take into consideration too.... I totally understand that extreme weather thing...

Sounds dumb, but one negative thing about the closer one is I'd be driving into the sun in the morning, and again in the afternoon. About 8 miles of the road in DIRECTLY into the rising sun a good part of the year.

    Oh well; can't have everything.....lol.
