I can't see Osky's post. From a woman's point of view, this just sounds painful. I don't want to be "milked" for the sake of cheese and/or other dairy products.
If you are 'engorged' with milk, it is actually painful if you DON'T milk yourself. I had to do it often if I had been drinking alcohol or caffeine. Those were the 'pump and dump' days that I couldn't breastfeed.
Well I'm careful about where my milk and cheese come from. As careful as I can be I suppose. I trust organic farming a bit more than the other farms. A humanely treated animal is a healthy animal and therefore produces healthy product. Truth be told, human breast milk is actually pretty toxic based on todays society and what we deem acceptable to enter our bodies. I'm in a cultural anthropology class right now and we've had to watch the videos "The Story of Stuff" and "Food Inc" in class. Really eye opening videos that I recommend watching. It may make you think twice about a lot of things.
But seriously, did farmers back in the good ol' days always keep their cows pregnant so they could get milk? I doubt it. Maybe PETA stretches things a little thin to get their point across (and their way).
