I've accumulated a new compulsion: cutting my split ends. Seriously, I feel compelled to sift through my hair, finding even the slightest split...then snip snip! This is even after I just had a trim over the weekend. I've been doing this for days now. Am I nuts or what?
Do you guys have any strange hair obsessions?
Marge: Barnacle Bill's Home Pregnancy Test? Homer, shouldn't we have gone with a better-known brand?
Homer: But Marge, this one came with a corn-cob pipe!
Marge: [reading from the test box] "Ahoy, Maties! If the water turns blue, a baby for you! If purple ye see, no baby thar be!"
Homer: So, which is it? Blue or purple?
Marge: Pink.
Homer: D'oh!
Marge: "If ye test should fail, to a doctor set sail!"
I have had this obsession since I was in middle school....
I have a lot of split ends and my hair breaks easily...I think having curls contributes to it.....bah!
But I feel your pain, at least once a week I grab the little scissors from my DH's beard kit and go to town on my split ends! LOL!

I used to have one of those Split Ender gadgets they sell on TV. You run it through your hair kind of like a brush and these little blades cut the split ends along the hair shaft and you don't lose any more than like 1/4 inch of length. It worked fairly decent... until one day the dumb thing stopped working totally. I ended up throwing it away but for the most part it did what it was supposed to do.
That reminds me though... I need to make an appt for a trim soon. Been about 2 months since I last went. I need my roots touched up too (too much grey peeking out). Maybe I'll get it done next weekend.
It's almost becomes rhythmic and relaxing...like trimming a Bonzai. Crazy, no?

my daughter goes NUTS when stray hairs are on her/our clothes after brushing, she will sit there till every single one is picked off..but she seriously does have OCD so i'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.

I rarely get split ends!
I don't have much compulsions, unless they hair's in my eyes! Then I can't stop pushing it out!
Oh, but usually if my hairs' down, it'll quickly start to bug me and i'll put it in a ponytail. I put it down and up SO much. Even when I've been able to stand it down for awile, I'll either get hot or eat and up it'll go.

If you twist large strands of hair in between your fingers, the split ends will stand out more and you can trim them with out accidentally cutting and other hairs.
I just totally sat here at my desk and tried this, it works
I've never cut my split ends but I have made them worse by finding them and then peeling the smaller split off.
