How do you research a doctor?

My Father is having back surgery done and he really wants to find information on the doctor before he goes under the knife. He wants to find out if there has been mal practive suits, complaints, or anything good as well. Is there a site we can search for tbis information on other than google or yahoo?

I googled "Oregon State Medical Board" and got this:
    http://www.oregon.gov/BME/index.shtml

I'm sure whatever state he's in, you can find something similar.

Also ask to speak to other patients he has had. Sometime you can speak to other people he has worked on.

    Also get a 2nd opinion.

find out what hospital your dad would be staying in post-operatively, then what floor he'd be on, THEN! ask to talk to a supervisor of taht floor and ask who they recommend as a surgeon.

i work on a surgical floor and trust me, we nurses all have opinions as to who we'd let operate on us, and STRONG opinions as to who we wouldnt' let touch us unless we were absoluetly dying.
Will there be screams when the sun sets,

thank you. i will tell him this. I know it's in beverly hills. My mother also informed me today the doctor did his last surgery, so i'm not sure what the concern is. I guess it's scary going under the knife and the last surgery was 10 years ago.

Almost forgot. Osteopathic Medical Board of California. My personal physician is an osteopath, so he's licensed by this board.
