A mom and her approximately 4 year old son came into the store today. He was all dressed up with adult looking clothes (dockers, a sweater vest, and a little beret!) that made him look sooooo cute! So I was trying to wave and say hi while his mom was filling out the envelope labels for her letters.
I started helping the mom and rang her up on the register. When I looked at her son again, he was (what's the verb?) rubbing his finger up and down against his lips (you know... blthhhhththhh). So I laughed and asked if he was bored. He got all shy and hid behind his mom but kept peek-a-booing from behind her.
After mom was done licking the envelopes (we do have a glue stick but she opted not to use it) she ed and said she always hates that taste. I motioned to our candy jar and said, "That's why we provide all sorts of tasty treats. To rid your mouth of that taste!"
So she takes a starburst and shows it to her son: "Do you know what this is?"
He looks at it in awe and then looks at me. He then looks back at her and squeaks: "Is that for me??"
She laughed and commented that he never gets any candy so it was kind of like his birthday for being offered a piece! I thought it was sooooo cute how he practically was all at the same time!
