Why not just get ding dongs and then put the team logo of name on them? That would be easy and ding dongs sure look like hockey pucks already!

Expanding on the Oreo idea, use the Mini-Oreo's (one per cupcake) and go with the white frosting idea.

Alternate idea: use a bright icing color to draw a stick swinging down at the mini-Oreo? It only needs to kinda look like a stick to be fine for kids. As for my team, we have become the big time critics of cupcakes! Seriously... we have cupcakes every 2-3 games all season! Great way to return all those calories we burned off.

At first I read this as "How can I make Pockey cupcakes?"

I am pretty sure that they sell those pre made cake decorations in hockey designs.

For the sticks you could also use pretzel sticks.

OMG: inspiration.... shove a Pocky into the cupcake, then draw the bottom of the stick on the surface of the cupcake (like you're looking top-down). Use two different colors of icing, one to match the pocky (for example chocolate if you use chocolate pocky) and a bright color to represent the tape on the blade. STick the Pocky in top down, so that the undipped part represents a taped-up stick handle.

Then place the mini Oreo next to the drawn stickblade, like it's hitting the puck

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

Ah, but Mini-Mite and Mite pucks are blue. So you could make blue cupcakes.

I like the idea of the white frosting to replicate the ice. I can't even recall ever seeing decorated team cupcakes as they are usually devoured quickly.

I was going to suggest frosting the cupcakes white and using blue to draw lines on it. And I was going to suggest using pretzel sticks and sticking them into the cupcakes, but I hadn't figured out the curved end of the stick yet. Drawing it on with icing is a great idea. The only other thing I'd thought of is to get those large chocolate chips and stick them into the icing upside down, so that the flat part sticks up and makes the hockey puck.

If you are looking for long skinny candy to make into hockey sticks you could try Twizzlers or Pocky.

I was just thinking while reading this thread, no one has mentioned pocky yet?

But what Morrigoon said is a good idea.

He doesn't have a team mascot or a team name. He is just in the learning part- he's 4. They don't even have games yet.

    .
Our pucks are black. Here he is in what's called 'Intro Mites'

I love the idea of painting blue and red lines and then putting a 'puck' in the middle!

So far, the stick seems hard.

Great ideas so far! Thanks you guys! I'll have to get to the store and just look around and see what I can find.
