Smile What Should I Get A Family That Has Everything?

I recently moved to the midwest and it's a long, complicated story but because of some very kind people, I am living rent free in their absolutely GORGEOUS mansion for 5 months. I am getting married in January and will be moving out of their home in late December.

So, I want to give them a GREAT Thank You gift and I am just stumped. They literally have all that they need, and so far they have refused money, cleaning, babysitting, etc as payment. They are just so darn kind. The family consists of the Mom, Dad and three youngins (a girl who is in first grade and twin boys who are in Kinder).

What do you think? What are some ideas of creative gifts that I may be able to give them in December when I leave? I am thinking between the $100-200.00 range if money is involved, although cheaper or more expensive isn't out of the picture.

    Any help is appreciated!

Any artistic or creative talents? If so, make them something. To me, something made by hand from the heart is always special.

You're so sweet to want to do something!
My first lame thought was to pay for a professional family portrait, like all gussied up for Christmas. Though that won't cost $100 and they probably already have one
    i'll keep thinking!
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Do you participate with the family on any trips? You could take some great candids of the kids and have it framed, or even create a scrapbook of sorts for them.

Is the decor in the house all perfect? Perhaps a silk floral swag or something of that nature would be something that would work.

    Tough question...
I love my awesome crazy wonderful friends!!

Re: What Should I Get A Family That Has Everything?

It's so difficult to get someone that has everything something isn't it?

You can take them to a really nice restaurant as a thank you. Everyones gotta eat right?

I know my most cherished things are photos of family and friends. As someone stated, maybe take some candid photos and make up a scrapbook or something like that. Take photos every month at some event where you are doing something with one of the family members, or the group, and dedicate a page to each event, or each person, or something, during your stay with them.

Do they collect stuff? Or do they like wine? Maybe some expensive bottles of wine. Or likker of their choice.

Whatever you do, they will be appreciative I am sure. Good luck!

Create a little scrapbook for them, assuming you have pictures of the family. Inexpensive but shows you care.

How about a gift certificate to a very nice restaurant? Or how about a gift certificate for a very fun activity like hot air ballooning or para sailing or riding in a limo or something like that?

Re: What Should I Get A Family That Has Everything?

Wow, these are all AWESOME ideas!!!

Thank you all for the thought put into answering my question!

Now I just have to decide which one( or which ones) I'll go with! I think a few of them can be easily accomplished and there were some ideas I never would have thought of! I may just have to give them 4 gifts: one for each month I'm there!

OH! And Princess Buttercup, it was so funny you mentioned Hot Air Ballooning. The family had actually been discussing how fun it would be to do such a thing only a few days ago! I will definitely look into it!

    Thanks again everyone!

If you want to make something, how about Christmas ornaments? Depending on how handy you are, you could make simple painted ones all the way up to intricate beaded ones. You can get supplies or kits at most craft stores or on the internet.

Possibly a gift card of some type, or just something personal - a nice dinner or something
