Re: Anyone Have A Great Recipe For Fried Chicken?

    How about Mrs. Knott's Chicken?

It's extremely simple! Five ingredients- Chicken, flour, salt, water, and oil for frying.

The trick is to soak the chicken in salted water, about 1/2 cup salt to 2 quatrts water, for 45 minutes before frying.

Then dredge in flour and fry until golden brown and delicious!

    That's it, that's Mrs. Knott's recipe!

I fry in Safflower oil, but you can use corn oil, peanut oil, or a blend simply called vegitable oil. Another good one to use is shortening, but it's trans fat and I gave it up.

The chicken meat with bones takes longer to cook, breast meat dries out easier and so it over cooks quicker. If you have all boneless meat, the larger pieces take longer, otherwise the ones with bones in them need longer.

    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

One thing my mom in law does with chicken is soak it in a mixture of water, Accent and salt to draw the blood out of the meat. (Just sprinkle both in the water, you will rinse it off when you go to cook it.) It is always so tender after she cooks it.

Re: Anyone Have A Great Recipe For Fried Chicken?

Step one.....go to fridge. Open and stare.
Step two....shut fridge and back out of the kitchen
Step three....get car keys and walk out front door
Step Four....start car and back out of driveway
    Step Five....find nearest Popeye's.

Seriously, I make mine the way my mom made her's. (one of the few things I liked of her's). That's basically the same recipe found in post #2. Only, since my hubby is a spice head...I put some crushed red pepper in the flour mix. He LOVES it...gives it a little kick.

Like everyone says...stay simple. I'm from the south...fried chicken...is NOT meant to be hard!

Looks yummy.....will have to try it, though Popeye's sounds like the easiest way to accomplish this task!

Make sure to go heavy on the seasonings for the flour, when I did a test run with it I made the mistake of not putting enough in

okay...BIG problem with the picture. Being from the south...you do NOT mix fried chicken with broc. All fried food MUST be served with something equally unhealthy but tasty. Like, Mashed potatoes smothered in gravy, with biscuits. OR......fried pickles and french fries. The plat emust be covered in things drenched, fried, or smothered. Southern law.

besides that....the chicken looks great. Ya did good, kid.

No worries, the borccoli was only for the purpose of the picture because I hadn't made all the side dishes yet. We had creamed corn, mashed potatoes & country gravy or brown gravy and biscuts.

Re: Anyone Have A Great Recipe For Fried Chicken?

so, my BF asked for fried chicken for dinner. thank you for this thread. I tweaked the recipe though. I added baking powder to the flour as well as salt pepper and chicken rub seasoning. I also bought a whole chicken and dismembered it myself. The breasts were friggin huge. I could not finish mine.

Anyway, it was a success and he had no complaints....oh, and we did have the mashed potatoes and gravy, but we also had steamed asparagus....we have to have something healthy...

that is a no-no when cooking anything southern!!!!! You are supposed to shove as much oil, butter, fat, sugar and cholesterol into the food as possible. If your heart doesn't skip a few beats with that first bite....ya ain't doing something right!!!
